Ike99 (Japan)-vs-Borner (Allies)
(Game Three)

Scenario 17-100%
All normal settings plus Japanese
submarine doctrine is on.

Houserule- No Nighttime Carrier Operations. Besides this it´s anything goes.

I have won once as Allies and Once as Japan in this series so I´m sure Borner is motivated to avenge himself upon me.

Maybe ¨3¨ will be his number...or maybe not.

boner is definitely a very good opponent. i play against boner (scenario 16 and i play the japs) since 1 month and we still fight for GG. he is aggressive, offensive and "does not make presents...or prisoners".

enjoy your game and i hope to see an intresting AAR here.

Yes, I´m definately going to have to change something. Do something so many times the same and they will find a way to beat it.

We shall see IKE. In both those games it was the first long campaign I played as each side. We will see how much I have learned from that time. As for changing things up, I expect you to go for auto-victory this time anyway, so pick a base and come get it!

5-10-42  IKe lands at Luganville. My PBY piolots were alseep, and did not detect the raid on the way in. recon shows a Ca covering force, and some single ship AP's. IKE caught my tanker and several light escorts, sinking a few ships. (details to follow in teh next post). Ike's carriers flew a long range unescorted strike on mine, loosing 12 Vals and 12 Kates. This will go a long way towards evening the odds should he stick around for another day.

Land units are so far reported as an AA unit and 1300 inf unit. PBY's and C-47's had been busy flying elements of a RCT to Luganville, so unelss there are more troops waiting in the AP's, I have a pretty good shot of holding the base.

Ike is also landing in the far northern Santa Cruz Islands. multiple single ship TF's spotted there as well.

Can it be IKE is going for Auto-victory?????

9-12, May, 1942.

A transport force covered by a surface group and carrier force began landing troops to rapidly capture Luganville.

Several allied ships were sunk through night time surface action and carrier strikes (two destroyer mine sweepers) but as he had already begun to fly in reinforcements, I was at extended range from any friendly base, the suprise attack operation was cancelled as to follow up would result in heavy Japanese warship losses.

One Japanese transport was lost.

So after his two previous losses Borner is,

Stronger...

Faster...

Than he was before.

5-20-42, not much to report. allied bombers from Pm have been striking Lea. May as well try go get some experience before they have to run back ao Aussieland. The better part of a Jap reg is at Luganville. They are outnumbered 2-1, and no threat to the base. US bombers, both land and CV based are flying against this target, happy to have something to do so early. Once this unit is worn down a bit more, my two RCT's will finish the job.

Luganville secured. One enemy infantry reg and one AA unit destroyed. Allied air strikes on Lea have cost IKE several hunderd men, and added some experience to my PM air units.

Luganville secured...now is it?

Japanese Carriers approach through thunderstorm undetected and catches the allied transport fleet and delivers a hard shot against my primary targets...his transports.

yes, I made a very stupid mistake. One day I will learn that when a TF wants to, it will go farther than it's movement circle. Had those in port with no cap.

I will loose a couple of AP's for the trouble. If I get lucky IKE will stick around for another round, but he is too good for that. Enjoy the free shot IKE, it will be the last one you get.

2 AO's, one medium AP sunk from Japan's raid. all other cripples are in port. Ike is sending planes to scout PM. No doubt a sub landing force will soon show up to get an accurate picture of my garrison there. My scouts show many single AP's running around. My subs heavilly damamged one, put a fish into another this turn, and a few turns ago hit one of his good ML's. I am sure if made it back to base, but knocking one of those big ones out even for a couple of months will be nice.

IKE has landed at PM. Looks like a Reg of infanty brought in by fast transport.

His carriers are off G-G covering the operation. As much as he has been running them around, they must be looking forward to some drydock time.

Ike has landed at Gili Gili and discovered that not much more than a company of men were actually moved there. He also as landed additional forces at PM, and should take it soon. Sorry IKE, you are not going to get 30k in prisioners this time. He did manage to shut down the airfield a few turns sooner than ideal, so 2 units of c-47's and the troops they were hopefully going to fly out will be additional guests of his shortly.

Japanese blitzkrieg Port Moresby, 9,500 Allied prisoners. Now Borner can begin his long road back.

I believe he was retreating. I don´t think he wanted an extended ground battle in New Guinea and keep a lot of Allied soldiers pinned there.. He will wait until he has the advantage to start fighting I think.

Mine sweeping, a needed job should the Imperial Cruisers be called into action even if it isn´t glorious...although not everyone understands this.

Haha...they should have. I don´t think they would have had to force anyone into the Navy that way!

Fairly quiet. IKE has has a few small ships hit mines, including a nice ML last turn. subs so far this game have hit 2 more I beleive, and sunk a MSW recently. The second regiment IKE brought to the santa cruz area is making a nice target for my bombers. Gives them a live target to fly against. once of these days I will get around to cleaning the area up, but for now, the increased EXP for my pilots is a nice bonus.
