This phrase must have been stated by the officer of the watch on one of my Union gunboats. I am playing the AI and have proceeded down the East banl of the Mississippi to just above Vicksburg. I have occupied all regions between the Mississippi and the Appalachian Mountains. The Rebs hold the West bank of the Mississippi. I placed my gunboats in each of the river areas from Vicksburg to St. Louis. Yet, Rebel cavalry raided Memphis from Arkansas. As I read Rule 9.1.1 (page 95) troops are not supposed to be able to cross a major river if there are naval combat units present. How did the AI cross the river to raid Memphis? Is this a bug or is the AI just better at camouflaging swimming horses?

If this is not a bug, my guess is that the reason lies in historical precedent. Raiding groups were much more stealthy than armies and corps and there were historical instances where they crossed large rivers in well garrisoned and patrolled areas without being stopped or caught. Areas where an army making a crossing would have been next to impossible. Of course, it's also true that raiding groups did not like to get caught with their backs to a river - I'm not sure how the raiding equation works, so this is just my $.02.

Sounds like a bug. Can you please send a save to 2by3@2by3games.com where we can run a turn and duplicate the problem. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I had no save game near that turn.

This was a raiding "group" of about 6,000. I don't think they could be that stealthy.

You did not have a save game to send to tech support? You could describe the exact situation
1 what turn was it
2. what units were involved
3.what units and amounts were in what areas
Then again it would be a lot of trouble. Given the nature of the way this game is designed something like this could happen 1 time out of X number of tries so I put it down to that 1 time where something like this would occur, kind of like real life.
