thats what happens when you drive on the turnpike during rush hour, 50 years later you've finally gotten off at your exit

fascinating picture.

Can someone tell me more about what's going on.  I'm curious, is it common for the main guns to be pointed up like that.  Is that craft in the bottom left corner a friendly?

Chris, those are 5" 38 cal dual purpose guns, and are pointed up to be used as anti-aircraft because the ship is sitting motionless to allow casualties to be removed by those friendly landing craft.
