My guess is, that Philippine squadron is just -really- happy to have traded in their P-39D(eathtraps) for P-38s.

Actually, they seemed to do quite well with their P-39s. I parked them in Hong Kong, where they ground attacked the 38th Division for about 6 months, while half flew CAP against the regular Sonia and Nell raids. They are all elite now, with nearly 300 kills accredited to the squadron. I sent them to Burma once the P-38Gs became available.

How the heck did they survive in Hong Kong for 6 months? Or is this against Admiral Ineptitude?

Even the AI would make a mess of them with the Tojo's starting at Canton.

Dont they begin with P26's?

Yes, vs. the AI.

When the Tojos came, they might shoot down one or two planes, but the pilots often survived. I think I lost only 4 or so pilots during their time in HK.

Most of the time, the attacks were only escorted by Nates. I guess the air balance was so much in favor of the Japs, the AI didn't see the need to send an adequate escort.

9 Tojos at Canton aren´t a wonder weapon.

Compared to a Peashooter, a Tojo is pretty danged close to a wonder weapon!
