Sorry if this has been covered in the past, but it seems to me the AI fails to upgrade its ships.
just checked the AI in august 42, no upgrades that I could see.

Is this correct? because if so I will use the editor to give the Jap navy 1944 AA on all ships to make them a little more challenging in the early days :)

They will upgrade when circumstances are right:  right port, right sys dam, etc.

The AI hardly does anything right . I've loaded a game I've been playing vs the AI & looked around to see why I was seeing no a/c from the AI, well come to find out little oil was being sent to the homeland so little of anything was being produced & no updates to ships had ever been done especially capital ships as they were just cruising around w/ no fuel gethering system damage. There were 2000 hitachi & Kawasaki engines sitting around, don't know how they got there as none were being produced & not enough a/c had been produced & scrapped to create it. I took over the game playing hotseat for 6mo to get a/c units filled & producing etc only moving units on both sides w/ no combat (partially to learn the IJ side as my next game will probably be that side) then just recenly turn it back over to the AI & in 3 days it was back to sending no oil to the homeland & fuel all over to places not needing it. Might be better just to scrap the resource/production system as AI can't handle it & just go w/ replacement rates for all a/c. On ships the AI may think to keep using a ship til it reaches a certain system damage lvl then send it to port but when it get below that it starts all over again so no updates really ever get done. Hopefully the AI in AE will be better

Well that sucks, but I am sure the AI was a better adversary in the 1.3 original version, keeping its TF's well fueled and armed and if I sent my carriers to far north KB would be sure to steam onto the scene.

But I totally agree about production though, the AI has never been able to run it with anywhere near acceptable standards so I have modified the daily imput of oil and resources by 7000 oil and 22500 resources in Japan so in theory she should have plenty, I have also increased HI, man power and nearly all factories. Swapped engine production to more needed ones and increased their production ten fold, in fact Japan now produces 300 Zero and 250 Oscar's, also she produces around 180 of each Betty, Val and Kate's. Increased pilots to around 300 a month army and navy with experiance of 80 and 90 respectfully. Overhauled merchant and naval yards and added 5 durrability and 1 armour to all aircraft models in production and future production. I also added about 15 Divisions in china changed the upgrade paths of Nates to use the early Oscars that are being produced and then to follow their normal paths. Carefully changed KB and all carriers to start with 1945 AA making then pretty well protected against air attack and did the same to all BB's, CA's, CL's as well as multiplied all AA weapons on all AK's and AP's by four and added 4,6 or 8 25mm type 96 AA guns depending on the size of the transport.
I honestly thought that all that would be enough to create a tough AI opponent, and it should and maybe would if I could get the damn AI to use those divisions.
I'm still at the drawing board boys, and if you didn't already notice the above Scenario is not strictly historically accurate, so any ideas what else to add.
