I have been termed by my PBEM opponents as something of a master at the fighting withdrawl.  I usually see little point, usually, in fighting to the last man.  Do you hold Milne Bay and Buna?  If so then retreating up the Kokoda trail could be a real option.

Sitting here looking out my window at one heck of a traffic jam...can't wait until the Democratic National Convention comes to town.   I'm sure that's going to make things much better.

The Kokoda is indeed an option and some of my engineer and lesser HQs are moving that way. I've also withdrawn my Bettys and brought in a Tony unit to consolidate with the beat up one there. A group of barges is headed to PM in order to withdraw other assets. Fun fun. F4Us and 200+ 2E bombers is just not something I want to grind myself to death against. It's Sept. 43 and the attrition of my co-prosperity sphere has begun.

Anybody know if Tonys in AE will have a higher maintenance burden? The liquid engine was notorious for deadlining what was otherwise a decent plane.

Good. Nothing less would be expected.

Personally, I wouldn't retreat to Buna, but to Lae. Buna is a cul-de-sac, easily within range of Allied forces at PM and Milne Bay. Lae is more defensible.

It was incredibly soggy over the weekend...almost thought I was in England for a second.

Otherwise, mostly quiet.

I think 9/43 is a good time to begin the withdrawl from PM. Of course, wherever you go and whatever you do that mass of corsairs and bombers is going to follow you...so you'll face them again at Lae, or Rabaul, etc.

If you're playing a human opponent, I often find it useful to make a big show of preparing to make a stand at a base...and then don't. Keeps them spending all kinds of time getting prepared only to find that no one is actually at home.

Agreed. Actually, I would make a big show of going to Lae, but really make it only a quick stop over on my way back to Rabaul.

I don't seem to have the boot-off issues you guys do. Every once in a while........

Maybe it is correlated to how much one spams.

What? No mad dash to Darwin screaming "RUNAWAY! RUNAWAY! RUNAWAY!" at the top of your lungs?

One thing I love about this game is that every decision you make can be both right and wrong.
