I made a medium sized scenario for the Spanish civil war and uploaded it. Should pretty much be possible to go straight to approval if packed correctly a s o. The scenario is deliberatly made so that it should be possible to play against AI. I have playtested the first turns a couple of times and the AI really seems to be killing me (when i play as the Republic on AI++).

Here is the scenariodescription.

This scenario simulates the spanish civil war between the nationalist rebels and the republican provisional government. The scenario begins on the 1st of july 1936. Each turn is 1 month long.

Rulechanges

- Naval movement doubled.
- Research is disabled.
- Fortifications cost 100 EP instead of 150.
- HQ reach is increased from 3 to 5 hexes.
- Possibly needs to have real mod installed.

Unit additions and changes

- Trains.
- Tankettes. A mix between armoured car and Light tank.
- The republic & nationalist each have 1 special commander (Colonel Yague and Durretti) who, other than being equal to staff IV, have the staff points of 50 normal staff.

Production

- Villages produce 0,5K, Towns 1K, Towns with shipyards 2K and Cities 5K.
- Villages and towns can only produce infantry and non combat units. Cities produce everything except ships.
- The nationalist controll 2 towns with shipyards (Vigo and Ponteverda). The republic side control a city with a shipyard (Barcelona). In these locations destroyers and cargoships can be produced. Other than this no ships can be produced in the game.
- Medium tanks, heavy tanks, tankdestroyers cant be produced.

Victory

Each side needs to control 120 VP:s to win.
Cities yield 10 VP:s, Towns 2 VP:s. Villages dont yield VP:s.

Reinforcements

- The nationalist side recieves 2 cruisers and a destroyer in the beginning of 1937. A purchase from Italy.
- The Condor legion arrives on turn 4.
- a shipment of Russian T26 (medium) tanks arrive on turn 5.

Grymme, your scenario looks great, but it seems unplayable againt the AI. The AI takes an eternity to make a move....

-Again had the same trouble. I forgot to say, but again the computer alerted me on an unhandled exception error. Maybe I didn´t upgrade to 1.20?

Aaah, fck. I forgot. The scenario actually triggered a bug in the computer program. Vic saw it and made a temporary build of the exe.file and sent me. Thats why its working on my computer ( & Vics) and not anyone elses. He said that the bug will be fixed when 1.20 goes gold. Its under the small things nobody noticed section.

I forgot about this, but i guess it means you have to wait for a couple of days before. But then the scenario should work.

Grymme -

Can you look at how you have the zip packaged? I think you have the folders reversed. It should be graphics\SpanishCivilWar and you have SpanishCivilWar\grahics

Let me know if you need help with this. I did move it back to the sandbox for the time being.

Thanks!
Rick

Delyn: something is strange with the pictures. Graphic files are there, but could be misdirected. Bombur managed to install the scenario though, maybe he knows how. Ill try and look at it, but i suffer from packing-scenario-correctly-phobia it seems.

I actually had some troubles in installing the files but I went to the editor and discovered the right path and then make the correct install. The correct path (at least the one that worked for me) is bin/graphics/Spanish Civil War/graphics (again)

This scenario was approved after the zip file was re-organized. It should now unzip correctly into the bin directory. It also uses the Realist mod, which is included in the download.

Hello, I´m a spaniard, and I´ve played your scenario about the Spanish civil war, and I have enjoyed it a lot, but I´d would like to make some comments:

1.- The scenario is very unbalanced in favor of the republicans
2.- The italian cruisers, arrive without suplies, and they move very slowy
3.- The military uprising was by the nacionalist, and therefore they should move first, plus this would help balanced the game.
4.- for the same reason I think you should increase one or two points some republican city to balanced the game
thanks for you attention.

Moltke: Why is it biased towards the republicans? Because the nationalist won? Both sides have the same amount of production even though the majority of industries and population was in the hands of the republicans at the time of the start of the scenario. My guess is that you assume that it is biased because the nationalist won. Actually i do think that at the stage the scenario start (very early in the war). Both sides had equal chances of winning, but the republicans sqrewed up more than the nationalist. I have played both sides against human opponents and both sides have good chances of winning. (this is also the most fun gamewise). If you seriously are going to claim the scenario to be unbalanced you have to specify why much more than you have now.

I should say that i had a 500p book about the war that i read when i made the scenario. Also looked at some internet sources.

As for the Italian cruisers. There is a bug in the game that wont give new units supply in such events. But i might make them appear in north africa instead.

As for who starts the scenaio. I might change this, will think about it.

You are free to mod the scenario yourself if you want.

Grymme, I think the scenario, if compared with the actual war, is somewhat biased towards the republicans because it gives more or less the same production for both sides and allows both players to build items that were imported IRL. The nationalists got much more external support, and it came at a smaller prices than the equipment sold by USSR to the republicans (nor mentioning the difficulties the Soviets had to bring stuff to Spain). It also fails to consider that the republicans dismantled the Army after the coup(for obvious reasons) and, in until the offensive against Madrid, relied on poorly armed militias. It took a time to reorganize a regular army. The scenario is good overall, but, as far historical simulation is of concern, some additional change could be implemented.

Fixed the Italian Cruisers event. They will now arrive in Melilla. Made the Nationalist start first and added one militia brigade to the nationalist OOB.

Upploaded. Scenario needs to be approved again.
