Some time between December 1944 and May 1945, the MkIVs went into action on December although re-equipment was begun in August. Operations ceased in May when the squadron started to re-equip with Spitfires.

Far as I read, they didn't start flying them operationally before January, but I could obviously be wrong.

The source I read mentioned December.

quote:

Operations against the Japanese began in July 1942 with the squadron supporting Chinese ground forces, until it moved into the Arakan the following October. Hurricanes began to arrive in February 1943 and by May the squadron was re-equipped with the 40mm cannon armed Mk IID. However, lack of suitable targets and ammunition restricted its operations to tactical reconnaissance. From August 1944 the squadron began re-equipping with rocket firing Mk IVs, which it took into operation in December, continuing to operate this type until September 1945, although it had ceased operations prior to re-equipment in May. Re-equipment was in the form of Spitfires, which the squadron took with it to Thailand, returning to India where the Spitfires were replaced by Tempest F Mk 2s in May 1946. The squadron disbanded on 1 August 1947.

Because that picture is from the Imperial War Museum, and their caption says it's aircraft from 20 Squadron.

The Mk IV had a multi purpose wing.  It could carry a 40mm gun in each wing for anti-tank work, or it could have bomb racks, or rockets.  The Mk IV also had the vital areas like the radiator armored.  It was the ultimate ground attack derivative of the Hurricane.
