Yeah, it's already Category 4 with lots of warm water before hitting land.

Be glad it's just rain. We've got two hurricanes bearing down on us. Ike is a Cat4 and has lots of ocean between him and the coast to build up steam.

Fortunately there aren't any sharp objects allowed down here or I'd use it.

10 Laws of Computing

1. When computing, whatever happens, behave as though you meant it to happen.

2. When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it's probably obsolete.

3. The first place to look for information is in the section of the manual where you'd least expect to find it.

4. When the going gets tough, upgrade.

5. For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.

6. To err is human...to blame your computer for your mistakes is even  more human, its downright natural.

7. He who laughs last, probably has a back-up.

8. The number one cause of computer problems is computer solutions.

9. A complex system that doesn't work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.

10. A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but rarely what you want it to do.

A woman comes home and tells her husband, "Remember those headaches I've been having all these years? Well, they're gone." "No more headaches?" the husband asks, "What happened?"

His wife replies, "Margie referred me to a hypnotist & he told me to stand in front of a mirror, stare at myself and repeat:

"I do not have a headache. I do not have a headache. I do not have a headache."

"Well, it worked! The headaches are all gone!" "Well, that is wonderful!" proclaims the husband.

His wife then says, "You know, you haven't been exactly a ball of fire in the bedroom these last few years. Why don't you go see the hypnotist and see if he can do anything for that?"

Reluctantly, the husband agrees to try it.

Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes, picks up his wife, and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed and says, "Don't move, I'll be right back."

He goes into the bathroom and comes back a few minutes later, jumps into bed and makes passionate love to his wife like never before.

His wife says, "WOW! That was wonderful!" The husband says, "Don't move! I will be right back." He goes back into the bathroom, comes back and round two was even better than the first time.

The wife sits up and her head is spinning. "OH MY GOD!" she proclaims. Her husband again says, "Don't move, I'll be right back." With that, he goes back in the bathroom.

This time, his wife quietly follows him and there, in the bathroom, she sees him standing at the mirror and saying:

"She's not my wife. She's not my wife. She's not my wife. She's not my wife."

Vatican Debate

Several centuries ago, the Pope decided that all the Jews had to leave the Vatican. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Jewish community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Jewish community. If the Jew won, the Jews could stay. If the Pope won, the Jews would leave. The Jews realized that they had no choice. So they picked an elderly aged man named Moishe to represent them. Rabbi Moishe's Latin wasn't very good - in fact, he knew very little--but he was a man of great faith and well respected in the Jewish community. The pope agreed. What could be easier than a silent debate?

The day of the great debate came. Moishe and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Moishe looked back at him and raised one finger. The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat. The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Moishe pulled out an apple. The Pope stood up and said, "I give up. This man is too good. The Jews can stay."

An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said: "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and the wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"

Meanwhile, the Jewish community had crowded around Moishe. "What happened?" they asked. "Well," said Moishe, "First he said to me that the Jews had three days to get out of here. I told him that not one of us was leaving. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Jews. I let him know that we were staying right here." "And then?" asked a woman. "I don't know," said Moishe. "He took out his lunch and I took out mine."

We are still in Indian summer... they predict that the next 7 days will be hottest in past 50 years... today it will be +32 degrees Centigrade...

The Gedser-Rostock bridge isn't happening for the foreseeable future, but the Fehmern Belt bridge will be built.

I checked, that's neither Danish nor German.

Well, that's three differing ways I've seen it spelled:

- Femern
- Fehmern
- Fehmarn

Apparently, the top one is the correct Danish spelling, and the bottom one the correct German, so I picked the only wrong one...

Interesting day at work...

A client of my IT Company, a corporation of about 60 people, has a brand new head office with 3 stories: 2 for the staff, the third for the chairman, his deputy and their secretaries alone. It's right next to our office.

Today an electrician (they are still working in the new building) managed to DOUBLE the voltage for the third story - without blowing the fuses!   No idea how this is even possible... Of course almost all power adapters (PCs, Displays) got a short circuit. The WLAN APs are fried, a PC and fax/printer/scanner combo started smoking - and they couldn't even open the windows because...

...all windows, lights, etc. are managed by touchscreens, which also stopped working.

I will remember this day as the "Day the Smoking Power Supplies". I suspect the electricians head will roll for this...

There's a conference room in the third story too, packed with beamers, a huge TV screen and an expensive stereo, for which my company isn't responsible, so I haven't checke their status. Yes, no effort was spared for the third story... If this equipment is damaged too then damaged devices + labor time of my company will cost the electrician's company a nice 5 digit amount of Euros... I hope they've got insurance.
