playing WAW as Russia.

When is the ideal time for the soviet war machine to kick in? Let yourself be attacked by Germany or attack before they do. I mean I'm not really meant to know that I will ba allacked by Germany.

What about Japan? What should I do with them?

Any Ideas?

Mat

I highly recommend reading the Briefing VERY carefully, because it shows a number of situations and event cards that you get/loose depending on the circumstances.

If Soviets are awake, by rushing as many troops to the border area as possible you MAY be able to eliminate the Soviet readiness hit that you usually take. Of course, the disadvantage is more of your troops may get slaughtered if not!

You're playing Japan AND Soviets? In the now 3 games I've played, Japan always has tried to take out China first and been successful. IF you can also build a massive fleet to DESTROY the Americans at Pearl, not just wound them, you'll be in excellent shape.

These are just general ideas. Good luck and have fun!

Sorry misunderstanding.

I'm not playing Japan. Was just wondering if I should put lots of units on my eastern border with Japan to prevent them from attacking. Or should I attack them before they gobble up china?

I've just finished a 4 player WAW where I was playing Russia - and I took Berlin in mid 41.
The best thing to exploit is the garrison levels. These change at the start of 41 - if you rush to the border at the ed of 40 and can tip the scales you can be at war with Germany and rush to Berlin whilst Germany is probably busy in the Balkans.

Having said this, I've played a game as Germany against Barthheart, I cocked up the garrison levels but still won - I'd pushed my Balkans army straight through to Kharkov before even crossing the Polish - Russian border! I won this one so it can work both ways.

If you decide to trigger the garrison event then either push forward and keep going or use it to withdraw your forces to more defensible locations without worrying about the German 'free ride' when they choose to attack.

Enjoy!

Soviets vs. Japan-
In none of my 3 games did anybody have a Sino-Soviet war.
If as Soviets you think you have the strength to attack Japan to slow their attack vs. China, that would be REALLY good for the West later. BUT, we've always thought Soviets needed every last man to work against the more dangerous Germans.
