In East Front, yes. There are Company HQ tanks.

Some have, but no, in general, not yet.

Eventually, the Germans in West Front will be the same as the Germans in East Front.

Jason,

Would the East Front Company and Platoon OOBs work for West Front?

No, they won't unfortunately. Which is why I intend on fixing it so you can.

This should be done in 1.05.

Perhaps this is a silly question, but is there any practical reason why west and east front could not be combined? I do not mean just OOBs but using one exe etc, etc.

Apart from recoding the various elements, nope, no reason at all.

Could you provide an example of something that one front supports and the other does not?

Thank you.

I am going to look at what is in each, and see if I can figure something out.

The biggest issue at the moment I am dealing with is creating a methodology for matching platoon ID's and ensuring there is enough room for all the units in West Front to be added to East Front. Unfortunately, there is a limited amount of platoon ID's per nation.

Once this master set is completed, then all of the existing scenarios and campaigns will have to ensure they are using the latest platoon codes in order to function. The existing West Front German platoon P01XXX will now be P01YYY in new master East Front platoon file, meaning that any West Front scenario that uses that platoon will have to be manually edited P01XXX = P01YYY in order to use the new master German platoon set.

Keep in mind, this is a 10 year old game and doing so will affect A LOT of scenarios. But with a basic procedure, it shouldn't be too difficult to replicate. Just time consuming.

I still have a GE AGS campaign going that i started after patch 1.04 in the original
started in december 1997
I think the campaign is in august 1944 now
I backup the campaign after each game and/or before each game
so if I get a crash or get killed
I can load up the last date

Hi,

Jason, i think this is a silly idea - to change ALL old scenarion/LCGs ..
Better implement a new Header in the scenario/LCG save File,
like "Format 2.0" ore so, and if this header not found - and so it is
an old file - a translate table in the exe is used to get the right number
from the old-number > new-number, so not one old file MUSST changed.
I think a better way to deal with new formats of save files, as reconvert
all old files.

That is a tremendous undertaking Jason, Kudos to you and the team if you are going that way. One executable for the games is ideal. That way you can have all the special attributes accross the board. One stop shopping if you will. It would definately be easier to update one file then 3 separate ones. Thanks for all the hard work Jason.

I agree with R_Team, what a time consuming monster to change all of the old scenarios. Also if you changed the platoon ID to meet 1.05 specs, wouldn't you have to place all the units in their original set up positions to complete the scenario file?

While I agree, this is silly, it is the only way. Unfortunately there are not enough unique platoon ID's in order to accomodate all the West Front and East Front German platoons -- plus those that are on the drawing board for inclusion in future UPDATEs.

Ideally, I would like to be able to expand the amount of available platoon numbers per nation, but again, that would be as much work, if not more.
