Does the Programmed Opponent ever lose detection of a unit once gained? It just seems like I can't shake their absolute knowledge even if the original sensing unit has been destroyed. Case and point - I had a Reaper UAV detected as it closed in on an airbase. The airbase was destroyed not too long afterward but a/c from other bases continued to vector in toward the Reaper even though it's radar was off and was well out of detection range of enemy radars.

Unlike the AI for ANW, I'm pretty sure that the HCE AI doesn't "cheat". When a player loses contact of an AI unit, the contact starts to fade out and the zone of uncertainty increases as time progresses.

I am pretty certain that the AI is vectoring interception assets to the last known location of your Predator. Those planes aren't very fast so the interceptors are probably re-establishing contact before the AI loses total track of your previous direction.

I've had plenty of instances whereby the AI loses track of my assets. I often dive to low altitude to get below the radar horizon and run as fast as possible to get away from the last datum point the AI has for me.

Herman - I've had similar experiences.  However in this one the Predator was later (had moved nearly 200 nm) fired on by F/A-18s whose radar was being jammed at a range of over 30 nm (both AIM-120s missed).  I'm mystified how they were able to track and fire on it...

The HCE AI indeed does not retain knowledge of detection once the uncertainty zone disappears. We don't know how effectively the jamming was nor which model F/A-18, and so on and so forth. (I n other words, feel free to compile an example scenario with minimal number of units and we'll take a look) The AI doesn't have to have an exact detection to fire missiles, occasionally I use that tactic myself, fire on the target before it is exactly localized and hope the missile seeker sorts out the situation.

I'm convinced then. Thanks everyone!
