Ok, I'm not even sure what question to ask here. I see that the 1st Tank Div that arrives in Kwantung has Type 2 and Type 3 tanks. Knowing virtually nothing about Japanese armor I was doing a little research that showed that a total of 34 Type 2 Ke-To tanks were produced. I also see that many of my tank regiments have already upgraded to the type 2 light tank. As I look at the armament pool I see many type 95 and type 97 tanks setting there. I also see that I have produced at least 400 type 2 tanks. What gives with IJA armor? Are the numbers in stock remotely representative of historical availability? Also, how can I gauge how many type 2 and 3 tanks will be available? Why do I feel I'm about to fall into a big production problem with my armor?

The reason I'm checking is that I'm getting ready to relocated the 1st Tank Div to the IO for an invasion of India.

Probably not. Look at the stock map of Oz (for example). Is that even "remotely representative of historical" accuracy?

The Japanese didn't have alot of industrial capacity to spare for tanks.

1940 values per Cox (Nomanhan) are only 573 AFV's (113 x Type 98; 271 x Type 87; 25 x Type 95 medium; 164 x Type 95 light)

1941 saw it doubled to around 1024 x AFV and 1165 in 1942 but then it dropped rapidly to 786 in 1943 and 342 in 1944. 1945 a paritial year saw a whopping 94 AFV built

The good thing about Japanese armor (if you're Japanese), is that, for the most part, a tank is a tank is a tank is a tank.  I did extensive testing to see the effects of different tanks, armor, guns etc.  I did several tank battles with everything from Shermans & Pershings and T-34s and KV-1s vs. the Japanese armor and

A tank is a tank, is a tank, is a tank.

Pretty much everything ended in fairly equal losses to both sides (where crappy Japanese tanks should have been slaughtered).

a tank is not a tank is not a tank. After you did your tests....i set up my own which showed that not to be the case.

Equal skill-fatigue-disruption-moral. Equal leaders. Open terrain. Each test run 5 and 6 times.

Show me how your test was any more objective than mine, and I'll conceed the point.

Otherwise, I stand by my results.

A tank, is a tank, is a tank, is a tank.

We can agree to disagree Nik.  It certainly wouldn't be the first time, and I doubt will be the last.

Franky, the results of your 2 executions, could be chalked up to the dubvious dice rolls (as could mine in all fairness).  All you did was run a different test, and got different results.  I'm not sure how that qualifies your execution as "more correct", but it's certainly your perrogative to assert that.

If you like apples and I like oranges, then so be it.

As you wish. People certainly can make up their own minds.

As for armor in the game, I tend to use it mostly as a shock attack weapon.  When attacking I find it most effective for disrupting the enemy, especially inexperienced infantry.

Back to the question about production.  As I understand it Japan has armament factories and these produce guns, tanks, etc.  So type 2 and typ3 tanks will be produced in some quantity determined by the computer.  Is there much a player can do to influence this?

They're somewhat useful for running down Dutchies in the DEI and Poms in Burma, but after that they are pretty useless.

you don´t produce tanks with armament factories, you produce tanks with vehicle factories. And as with the armament factories (for guns, squads...) you can´t influence what is produced.
