Hello, a couple of questions. I'm about ready to take the plunge and buy WITP, but first, some info.
1) In what way is this game different from Uncommon Valor?
2) The Admiral's Edition a complete game into itself, or just an expansion?
3) Is the difficulty level comparable as say, Highway to the Reich or Desert Fox ( SPI's old 2000 + counters game)

As always, thanks for your input
Cheers
MC

1): It's MUCH, MUCH, MUCH bigger, has far better mechanics and art, and is much more friendly to the modder.
2): It's an expansion, requiring you to have stock WitP installed already.
3): It's very complicated. Controlling every ship, sub, plane, squad, gun and tank from Karachi to San Francisco and Attu to Auckland will do that...

You sure ? I'm almost certain I heard somewhere it's going to be a stand-alone game.

Quite sure. There HAS been some public confusion and some rumours to the contrary, but it IS an expansion.

It's not comparable. These are two completely different games. I play them both, but for different "kicks".

Looks like an ideal topic to have a wager on

Ok, if I'm wrong, I'll drink a beer to your health, you do the same for me - agreed ?

Now we only need a "Matrix Official Reply" to see if I have a good excuse (as if I need one really ...) to have a cold beer tonight

Greetz,

That bet wouldn't be very fair. For one, I'm on the AE development team. For another, Matrix has already confirmed this numerous times on the AE forum.

But have a cold one anyway...

I think he is talking about the monster boardgame Highway to the Recih

Not the excellent and very playable Pather GAmes HTTR for PC.

If playing that kind of monster boardgames don't make you ready to tackle WiTP nothing will!

Yea, BUT the caveat is that since it IS a total replacement of the original game it only qualifies as an "expansion" by virtue of the fact that one has to have the original to be able to install it. The true definition of an "expansion" is something that "expands" the original game, not something that replaces it altogether with something completely different.

I stand corrected... Those images make my miss the boardgaming days. Great stuff!

If WITP-AE gets its core and inspiration from WITP then to me that is an expansion. As I understand the project, in order to incorporate the new ideas and concepts that were "approved" from the extensive wish list. The team decided that doing major modifications (adds, cuts, changes etc...) to the old code was the best direction to go.

This was desirable because it was not possible (or perhaps realistic in terms of available resources) to try to patch WITP-AE into existance on top of an original WITP. And starting at the first line of the code would be more of a WITP-2 project, so that also was not a viable option.

Six one way, a half dozen the other. I just hope WITP-AE comes out good AND that we can have a BBQ terminus party (YIPPEE!!!)

You may now have your beer.

Who said I was planning on winning that bet

Seriously : not too long ago someone from Matrix privately told me it could/might become a standalone game - meaning that you don't need the original WitP installed prior to installing the AE, so this wager is still running as far as I'm concerned. Well at least until the game is officially released.

Would you mind defining "expansion" since I did not have "sex" with that woman?

Oh, never mind.....I'll take your word for it Erik.

Well that makes it pretty much absolute, expansion it is! And hopefully it will come with an expansion price tag.

You can get a good look at a t-bone steak by putting your head up a bull's arse but why not just take the butcher's word for it?

105, Glad you bought Witp.

I got it in 2004 and played it off and on over the years. When it was all said and done it probably took me a good 9 months to be semi confortable with grand camp, production and all the other stuff. I'm also still learning, it's one of those games I don't think I'll ever master.

I forget if I paid $69 or $79...but it was worth it.
