Either there are a lot of people downloading right now or they need to put another hampster in the cage. I can download at 4 mb/sec, this is a joke, please get out of the stone age...

It's my understanding that it is not the server as it has plenty of bandwidth.

It is to do with the vagaries of the internet and the untold number of hops between you and the server.

downloaded for me yesterday at 165 KB/s which although is a bit slow, it transferred steadily without packetloss and dropouts - and I'm in Australia.

can you do a traceroute?  You may discover the bottleneck is somewhere else.

cheers

Downloaded with ~ 1 MB/s yesterday. But that was outside American primetime I suppose.

The servers here are operating at a fraction of their capacity, there's no point since release when they've been taxed anywhere close to their limits in terms of processing power or bandwidth. Unfortunately, the internet is notorious for situations where getting to one place is fast and getting to another is slow. If you are having trouble getting fast download speeds from our server, my first suggestion is to run a traceroute to see if anything looks slow there and discuss the issue with your ISP to see if they can speed up your route to us.

Sorry but you are not telling us the true, it is that your servers are operating at the 100% of their capacity or your servers are on Goby desert.
I remember that I downloaded the game on first hours from its release at 11kb/s and next when many of you are sleeping the download was a bit faster, about 115kb/s. Of course, now I have it. But I´m sure that your server is not too good.

No, I'm telling you the truth and the servers are fine. The bandwidth has never come close to being maxed out, nor have the servers. Every time we've looked into this kind of report in detail in the past, the problem has come down to a hop between the customer and us that's got high latency/packet loss or is otherwise disrupting the connection quality and causing low download speeds.

Yes that is because the rest of the USA / Canada and South America are sleeping by that time also. Of course you then get better bandwith to overseas destinations. That is no news, since the internet exists actually.

When I surf US websites during night and early morning times US, I always get faster page renders then when it is business time over there.

Before pointing the finger at us or calling us liars you should use some common sense please.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traceroute

for me, I use windows at work, so I look at my download URL in the browser and pull out what appears to be the server address, in my case spf7.digitalriver.com - and then bring up a command prompt and type tracert spf7.digitalriver.com , this is the result:

quote:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\chrism>tracert spf7.digitalriver.com

Tracing route to spf7.wip.digitalriver.com [81.21.145.19]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  vl700.cor3.adl2.internode.on.net [150.101.0.138]
2   207 ms   207 ms   208 ms  po3.bdr1.adl6.internode.on.net [203.16.212.14]
3   207 ms   207 ms   207 ms  pos4-3.bdr1.syd7.internode.on.net [203.16.212.37]
4   207 ms   207 ms   207 ms  pos4-1.bdr1.sjc2.internode.on.net [203.16.213.49]
5   208 ms   208 ms   208 ms  sl-st22-sj-3-1-2.sprintlink.net [144.223.179.177]
6   208 ms   208 ms   209 ms  64.212.107.149
7   362 ms   362 ms   362 ms  64.214.142.10
8   388 ms   388 ms   388 ms  dc7fwC1a.digitalriver.com [81.21.148.36]
9   359 ms   359 ms   360 ms  spf2.wip.digitalriver.com [81.21.145.19]

Trace complete.

use the wiki to interpret, but in a nutshell there's no apparent bad issues here, ping times are what I'd expect for international transit over fibre links (after all, speed of light can only go so fast..), reasonably low number of overall hops to get to the server, although hop 7 adds an additional latency of around 150ms and that's probably as it's a border router into digital river or their data centre host, but really no bad ping spikes (higher the number the bigger the chance for slowdowns, dropouts, general badness)

sorry for the resulting confusion :-)

Always telling us wrong things, if I could download faster on night was because people was not downloading the game. And 5 hours of download is not too fast. Probably I have more sense than you Marks because I have one server on US and I know very well how the net run because it was part of my job sometime ago.

And looking Chris Merchant trace, you have not good exit ping, it is because your servers are not too good, it is not a shame, many webs have bad servers.

The software comes from Digital River

They know what they are doing and how to do it.

Nomada Firefox,

If other customers were downloading at much faster speeds at the same time that you were downloading your purchase, what would that tell you? I'm not entirely clear on how you are convinced about this, when we can actually check the servers and bandwidth usage here. If there were any shortage of bandwidth or server power, at any time, we would address it but there has not been.

Regards,

- Erik

That it is normal because servers do not divide well on many users all the power. Usually servers let a number of connections and more of a number will not obtain a good connection.

And on the past I have downloaded other matrixgrames buying them on digitalriver and It was faster than the past days.

geee, my net has been shot all week, had high winds in the area and it kept knocking the connection out, but I don't blame it on Matrix or other places on the net (my ISP won't come out and fix there pole)

Downloaded the CC4 Update in the last hour, or so. Speed fluctuated between 400-600KB.
