OK, I can invade Sweden as Russia, but the AI tends to have trouble with it. So, how can we make the Russian AI "know" how to invade Sweden? Here are my points. I'd like to open this up to others who can clarify, fix or refute this to make a better Russian AI. This kind of assumes that Russia is going after Sweden right away, but it could relate to later. 1. Choose to defend Sweden and DOW the major DOWing Sweden, if needed, before the first Diplomacy step. This needs to be said, in case it takes a while to be able to DoW Sweden. 2. Try to get an ally, Denmark. (I hate losing Russian ships.) Basically, here I put a lot of effort into getting Denmark as an ally, this distracts the Swedes. I may wait til I have them before I attack Sweden, but not too long. 3. DoW in April or maybe July. This is a risk as someone else, probably England, has a chance to do that. However, their army is TINY. Save Kut or Baggers as a leader to put on the stack, if attacked. 4. Have a stack to move into Finland, but not to take the city, Abo, until you can land your troops into Sweden proper. This keeps the war open. I also have one or two cossacks ready to move into Sweden by land via the land bridge. No supply needed and it POSSIBLY adds two more cav factors to either take as losses or not as needed. 5. Make sure you have the right setup of troops to land in Sweden and a good leader. (I tend to have a full heavy fleet and the transport fleet starting up there in St. Petersburg.) I land with two corps into Sweden. I forget right now how many cav the swedes have. I think it's one, so I bring two (+possibly the two cossacks). 6. I stay in Finland, but I don't move onto Abo until I'm landing into Sweden. Even if the city is open. 7. If you get Denmark, then set up the one inf in the capital and the corps in Christina/Oslo. This is a major distraction to the Swedes. They move in on the turn that you land your other troops. Danish fleets move to defend the landing sea zone. 8. Roll well. :-) OK, so what can stop this? A. England getting Sweden and DoWing you. Well, you're just screwed. Suck it up and deal with it. you may have to reinf by land...gulp. B. I tend NOT to blockade the port, so as not to sink the Swedish ships. This is a crap shoot and can go either way. It's just what I do. So, the Swedes could intercept and do battle. Losing proposition all the way around, since any ships lost are ones that you don’t have. Worse case your invasion is thwarted. One thought would be to sail to the sea space NW of Abo. The Swedes may intercept, but usually won’t come out there to fight. (Not sure if there is a retreat space from here though.) OR do blockade the port, but don’t drop the disembarking army off onto Stockholm. Instead, wait a turn, move the ships away and the troops onto the city. C. Set up a small Swedish corps up to block the Cossack move. This just wastes Swedish troops. If this is the case, you don’t even have to move the Cossacks in. D. Swedes attack the Danes in Christina. Sure, great. C above, but even better as you easily take Stockholm. Any other thoughts on how to stop this? So, that’s my analysis. What are your thoughts? Russia needs to do better regarding Sweden. Let’s try to give Marshall Ellis some help. On a side note, when the Russian and Turkish AIs fail in taking Sweden (RU) or Egypt (TU), they tend to just there lost for a long time. If the attack fails or whatever, they need to be able to move on to their next problem, not stay trapped there. Ciao! Jason
