The map text files have a listing for map width and height listed in number of tiles . What is the maximum height and width in pixels that the game will handle and how many pixels are in a tile? Is each tile 120 pixels as CC3,4 and 5?

Yes

nominally 3600 x 3600 but suggestions that 3840 x 3840 works

so 30 tiles maybe 32

Stock CC5 maps work in WaR, should be no recoding needed.

Most mods maps will work , may need recoding if they used a custom elements file.

CCMT maps work in WaR if reduced to the maximum size.

CC3 and 4 Maps work if run the rough the various "converters" available.

I checked the tile sizes and it appears that the number of tiles listed in the Map.txt file is the number of elevation tiles (40x40 pixels).

The Andler.bgm is 2040x1680 (measured in pixels)

From the Andler.txt file:
10
Andler
51 X Max
42 Y Max

Using the following formulae:

Tiles (value of X Max) X 40 (Elevation Tile width in pixels) = .bgm width in pixels
51x40=2040 (the width of the Andler.bgm in pixels)

Tiles (value of Y Max) X 40 (Elevation Tile height in pixels) = .bgm height in pixels
42x40=1680 (the height of the Andler.bgm in pixels)

A few more questions:

Are the placements of the victory locations based on deployment tiles(120x120) or elevation tiles(40x40)?

What is the maximum length (in characters) of each side's breifing text contained in the .btd file?

Is the elements file used for coding the maps the same as the elements file from CCMT?

Just some additional info about VL editing.
FYI, you can still use the old tool BTDEdit for VL placements.
The BTDEdit generated BTDs are not compatible with CCWAR though...so you will need to convert the BTDs to CCWAR format using the latest version of RtBTool (thanks, Mafi!). Beats calculating the X,Y locations manually!

40x40

You can see that by opening a btd in exel or othe r spreadsheet program.

Not sure, but have had issues with some mods... it's slated for investigation.

No

Is is expanded from MT though

The first 323 are the same
The 1st 158 are the same as CC5

That's why CC5 and CCMT maps will work without alteration in WaR

A WaR map won't work in CC5 or CCMT

But Will work in CC5 if you use WaR elements file,

And will work in MT if yu

1. Make it square
2. Use WaR elements file

So it is "Backwards" compatible but can be re-jigged fairly easily to be the reverse.

I'm playing 5 WaR maps in CCMT WWII mod "Peipers Odyssey"

And if you change the elements file and terrain files, what happens?

AFAIK, as long as you convert CC5 elements.adb to CCWAR format elements.txt...the CC5 map will work in CCWAR without recoding.
As for terrain files...I'm using a CC5 custom terrain file (copied directly from my CC5 mod) without problems...is the WAR terrain file (maybe more slots?) different to CC5, BTW?

The VL "to South Eifel" contained in the Andler.btd has an X,Y value of 16,6. This victory level is a short distance from the right edge of the map.

X=16x120=1920
Y=6x120=720

It appears that the co-ordinates for this VL are 1920,720

The Andler.bgm is 2040x1680

2040-120=1920

Do the calculated co-ordinates correspond with the placement of the top left corner of the VL graphic?

Does the tile numbering scheme begin with 0? (ie tile 0,0 being the top left 120x120 area of the .bgm)

Is there a WaRelements.txt availbale for DL somewhere that will work in 5CC?

Thank you!

Next question:

In the campaign.txt file there is a line that allows you to set the 'home' direction (friendly rear that way. 0 = N, 1 = NE, 2 = E, 3 = SE, 4 = S, 5 = SW, 6 = W, 7 = NW).

Does this setting also determine the deployment area of an attacking unit when a user creates a custom battle?

No

deployment is random in single battles

We looked at whether we should add extra coding to determine deployment areas etc...

But decided on going for Randomness to increase replayability of each map/battle supplied.

As you know entry could come from anywhere depending on the preceding Strat moves.

A note on 3C and 5CC

I've tested both.

5CC can handle the enlarged elements file without any problems.

3C can do everything but cannot produce a LOS file.

LOS must be created with 5CC.

Step by step scientific testing has shown   3c can only out put LOS when coded with elements numbered under 263, this is the Muddy stream element.   Any map coded with muddy stream or a higher numbered element will not be able to have a LOS created with 3C... use 5CC to output the LOS file.

I looked at this, and while I don't have an exact count, it seems that briefings can be pretty large. The Omaha briefings are very large and fit.

Couple of things to note after I did some looking at the giant BO briefings.

1. If you have paragraph breaks, the first paragraph will be the allied briefing and the second paragraph will be the axis briefing. Any text after the second paragraph will not show up.

Here is an example of a giant Omaha briefing that works ok. Percee is 4041 characters (including spaces) and shows ok

Getting a lot of good info in this thread.

Thanks to all!

Do you know of any other prohibited characters?
