Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft G4M1 Betty x 6 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 16 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged Allied aircraft losses P-40B Tomahawk: 1 damaged Allied Ships AK Maine DD Hatfield Aircraft Attacking: 1 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet Out of a sudden, our Mavisī, Alfs, Nells and Betties start spotting a hell of a lot TFs near Midway!!!! MIDWAY??????? This was the moment I poured out my coffee all over my desk! What the heck! Why do we spot TFs around MIDWAY? Before I really realized whatīs going on, the first of my bombers took off to engage the enemy TFs. First strike goes in against a TF which is probably an invasion TF... Miller is flying LRCAP from French Frigate Schoal... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft G3M Nell x 9 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 16 Japanese aircraft losses G3M Nell: 9 damaged Allied aircraft losses P-40B Tomahawk: 2 damaged Allied Ships CL Concord DD Sands DD Ward Aircraft Attacking: 1 x G3M Nell launching torpedoes at 200 feet a CL and DDs? Probably part of another invasion TF.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here comes our main strike in the morning... Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 40 G3M Nell x 16 G4M1 Betty x 29 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 16 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed, 5 damaged G3M Nell: 2 destroyed, 12 damaged G4M1 Betty: 3 destroyed, 19 damaged Allied aircraft losses P-40B Tomahawk: 25 destroyed Allied Ships BB Oklahoma BB West Virginia BB Maryland BB Nevada BB Colorado, Torpedo hits 2 CA Indianapolis Aircraft Attacking: 1 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet and Iīm totally disappointed!! The defense of the Tomahawks was pretty much a joke and they were eaten alive by my high exp Zeroes but what the hell are my bombers doing? This must be the worst hit rate Iīve seen in the last couple of months. Weīre talking about high exp IJN pilots that had no fatigue at all and we achieve only ONE torp hit. No, not two, the second was only FOW. Am sure about that because there was no "belt armor penetration" message after the "torp hit BB Colorado". One bomber out of 45 achieves a hit on the old and slow moving BBs... depressing... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 3 G4M1 Betty x 6 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 9 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 6 damaged Allied aircraft losses P-40B Tomahawk: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged Allied Ships BB California BB Pennsylvania, Torpedo hits 1 Aircraft Attacking: 2 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet 4 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet another attack, this was succesful. Amazing that thereīs another TF with BBs in it. So weīve spotted already 7 BBs... there are also cruisers, the Allied CVs - yes the CVs!!! - DDs and surely over 100 APs/AKs... in fact, we are seeing the whole US Navy going into position to retake Midway! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF, near Midway at 95,61 Allied aircraft F2A Buffalo x 15 F4F-3 Wildcat x 13 SBD Dauntless x 106 TBD Devastator x 51 No Allied losses Japanese Ships AK Morioka Maru, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Italy Maru, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Sansho Maru, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage AK Bengal Maru, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Busan Maru, Bomb hits 9, on fire, heavy damage AK Melbourne Maru, Bomb hits 9, on fire, heavy damage AK Kokoku Maru, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Montreal Maru, Bomb hits 6, on fire, heavy damage AK Shinei Maru, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK India Maru, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Matumoto Maru, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Tottori Maru, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage Japanese ground losses: 2082 casualties reported Aircraft Attacking: 4 x SBD Dauntless bombing at 2000 feet 2 x TBD Devastator launching torpedoes at 200 feet and this is what makes me thinking that I just lack the right portion of luck in the right moments. Our bombers are performing more than lousy and to top the ****ty situation off, this TF of 12 big AKs just arrived TODAY!! One day later... and nothing happens... two days earlier... and nothing happens as the TF only needs three day/night phases to unload... would my 40-50 aircraft on nav search have spotted something yesterday... nothing would have happened... no, the enemy TFs consisting of something like 400 ships manage to sail into position just next to Midway and they arenīt spotted... My TF was ordered to bring in 6 construction rgts... needless to say that the whole TF of 12 ships is lost. This just sucks, I hate losing ships that way... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft G3M Nell x 2 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 6 No Japanese losses No Allied losses Allied Ships MSW Nipigon Aircraft Attacking: 2 x G3M Nell launching torpedoes at 200 feet senseless attacks in the afternoon... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft G3M Nell x 3 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 6 Japanese aircraft losses G3M Nell: 2 damaged Allied Ships CL Detroit Aircraft Attacking: 3 x G3M Nell launching torpedoes at 200 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 3 G4M1 Betty x 3 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 6 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged G4M1 Betty: 3 damaged Allied aircraft losses P-40B Tomahawk: 1 damaged Allied Ships AP Royal T. Frank Aircraft Attacking: 3 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft G4M1 Betty x 3 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 6 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 3 damaged Allied Ships BB Colorado Aircraft Attacking: 3 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 101,63 Japanese aircraft G4M1 Betty x 3 Allied aircraft P-40B Tomahawk x 6 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 2 damaged Allied Ships BB Pennsylvania Aircraft Attacking: 3 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 97,62 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 32 G4M1 Betty x 6 Allied aircraft F2A Buffalo x 54 F4F-3 Wildcat x 55 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 14 destroyed, 4 damaged G4M1 Betty: 1 damaged Allied aircraft losses F2A Buffalo: 9 destroyed, 23 damaged F4F-3 Wildcat: 4 destroyed, 13 damaged here comes the afternoon strike against the CVs! Miller is using a lot of Marine fighters on his CVs so he probably swapped out his TBDs with Marine fighter squadrons. We donīt have a hr about it, canīt say that Iīm happy about something like this though. Itīs not a complete fighter death star and he hasnīt overabused it so I can surely live with it. Using something like 60-70% fighters or even a complete complement of fighters would be too much for my taste though... against the numerical superiority of the defenders that were able to bounce us all the fight there was not much my high exp Zeroes could do... far too many Zero pilots lost and not a single bomber made it through as they immediately turned around - which saved their live... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack near Johnston Island at 102,74 Japanese Ships SS I-2 Allied Ships DD Maury DD McCall DD Russell DD Mustin DD Hughes DD Sims -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Hengchow Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 10271 troops, 318 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2754 Defending force 103255 troops, 631 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2539 Allied ground losses: 25 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at 38,37 Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 21962 troops, 265 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 488 Defending force 10219 troops, 31 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 255 Allied ground losses: 12 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at 45,35 Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 83551 troops, 1010 guns, 7 vehicles, Assault Value = 1889 Defending force 28569 troops, 207 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 913 Japanese max assault: 1845 - adjusted assault: 748 Allied max defense: 659 - adjusted defense: 381 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 Japanese ground losses: 1339 casualties reported Guns lost 52 Vehicles lost 1 Allied ground losses: 271 casualties reported Guns lost 20 this is at the crossroads... As you can see, we have a pretty bad adjusted av but still, we only missed the 2:1 by 14!!! assault points... well, if you remember my statement about three units in the hex and three air attacks concentrating on TWO units instead of dispersing them on all three. One small air attack often is enough to disrupt the enemy so much that the assault value is halfed or even worse. Unfortunately this didnīt happen and our assault failed...
