ok, I know ya'll are tired of reading this... but...... another turn, another AP - a big one took a torp and 5 shell hits. Plus another AP hit a mine. Several of my subs now have minor sys damage from surface fights with his AP's, so there will be  a brief break in the sub war I think. I am going to miss it, this was several turns in a row I managed to hit something over there.

Before Ralf threw in the towel, we had quite a little fight going on over Nevea. I kicked him off of both it and Wunpuko so he came back for another round at Nevea. He had the sea and air lanes pretty well covered and was flying LRCAP over Nevea from Irau and Lunga.

I repeatedly flew C47s and even Catalinas into Nevea in the teeth of the LRCAP losing on average 4-6 transports per day. In spite of the losses (the C47 pool was huge) I succeeded in getting enough of them through carrying both men and supplies that he was never able to get the upper hand on the island.

The Allies can sustain those C47 losses pretty well if the need is great enough to warrant risking them.

I´m not going that far. I just bother him a little until he comes closer.

Yes, I think you are playing smart Ike. Playing for the long haul. I'm currently playing my first PBEM game as the Japanese against Borner with the same strategy. I'm just not as skilled at it as you are.

I was just pointing out that if the Allies are willing to sustain some losses in transport aircraft they can get enough through to make a difference in an operation. Allied players shouldn't necessarily avoid the tactic if the gains justify it.

trying to maintain a cap over the base will cost IKE more planes than he wants to loose. He always likes to keep his good pilots for the big battle in the second half of the game. He did send a bombardment group in this turn, but I think that was to see if he could catch any ships at the base

I'm impressed with how low the OPs losses are for both sides.

My game with Todd is in mid Septermber '42 and I have over 500 Ops losses while Todd has over 800.

In the only game I have played through to the end of 43 I lost 3500 a/c to ops losses (playing as the IJN). Just flying to and from a target is a challenge for late war Jap pilots

You guys must really be pulling your punches if the combined A/C loss is less than 500 in six months of combat.

Fatigue plays a large factor in OPS losses. I rotate every squadron in the combat area to the rest area, back and forth to keep them combat effective.

This is 17 at 100%, I cannot afford 3,500 OPS losses.

This is our third game against each other. We are both looking for effective punches, not simply the number of punches.

I am really not in a position to use my airpower effectively, so I am trying too am trying to save up a couple months extra replacements. We are probably looking at a pretty calm few weeks as my subs need some time in dock.

My submarines don´t. Taking Nevea extended your supply lines a little so they can do some good work now.

I36 scores a victory against a supply convoy to Nevea.

Five weeks after landing at Nevea, Hudsons launch the first air attack from that base against Japanese shipping.

Destroyers, no hits are scored. Three Hudsons are lost.

IKe counters by sending waves of Bettys in for a night attack on the new airstrip last turn. 16 precious Bettys were lost in the effort.

really? They were flying so high I did not hear anything. Just getting them some experience and seeing of you had anything based there.

Also, after a few weeks of well deserved rest, my subs returned to the hunt. MSW Wa1 sunk this turn.

Fairly quiet week. My subs seemed to prefer to attack on the surface, and 3 have paid the price. they also seem to be good at hitting, but not sinking, a good percentage of what they shoot at. Still, a good number of IKE's ships are out of service, and one of his damaged ML's from early on was not as lucky this time, and was sunk. 3 small ML's gone. I figure many of those i hit early in the game should be coming back online now, but it should be several hundred mines less than what IKE is used to.

A mass bomber raid on Rabaul port causes minor damage to 12 ships. One submarine heavily damaged.

I like these raids. 11 heavy bombers were destroyed. Not so many of these raids and his heavy bombers will be gone.
