Have tried to have a replenishment TF refuel an Air combat TF at sea. Even tried to have the TF follow the replenishent TF and vica versa. Seems the the CV's and other ships never refuel. However refulelling works ok when its not a Air Combat TF. Replenishment TF consists of 2 AO fully loaded.
Anyone know the best way to replenish an Air Comabt TF at sea?

When both are in the same hex, go to the air combat taskforce and hit the button replenish TF at sea, it will immediatly draw from the replenishment task force. No need to wait for a turn to process.

Well tried that...the carriers dont fill up and if anything they use their fuel to replenish the TF instead of from the Replenish TF with the AO.

About the only sure fire way is when they are all very low on fuel........the TF will refuel then. No clue why, but it almost always works for me. Once my CV's hit the red, it is time to top off some.

I have had success when they either pass the same hex or stop in the same one.

It has been my experience that only ships very low on fuel will be resupplied from the replenishment TF. Yes I have had the replenishment refuel from the carriers/BB/CA whoever had a high level of fuel. Have tried to top off and only the DD's refueled also.

I think there is no way to "top off" before rushing in but a replenishment TF is mighty handy when you are pulling back out and fuel levels in the ACTF are too low to share with the smaller ships. It is also a good way to keep from sucking those way out bases dry by hitting the replenishment before docking out on the far edge of the wilderness.

I've had mixed success with getting CVTF's to refuel from Replenishment TF's.  Sometimes they refuel, sometimes they don't (but other ships in TF refuel), but since I head for the Replishment TF when my escorts get low on fuel instead of the CV's, perhaps that is why they don't always use the oilers.  Now, the CV's will take planes from the CVE's (with the replacement squadrons) whenever they get the chance, but fuel is a different matter.

Try this: with the ACTF in the same hex as the replenishment TF, create a new ACTF and assign to it only those ships in the existing ACTF that you want to refuel (presumably the carriers). Click 'replenish TF at sea' for this 'temporary' ACTF then dispose of it by re-assigning its ships to the ACTF from which they were drawn. I agree that if you simply try to refuel the existing ACTF you may only get fresh fuel into the screen vessels, whilst the method I have suggested targets replenishment on specific vessels, rather than leaving this choice to the computer.

The fact you only have two oilers available for the RAS may also have prevented you from getting fuel into the carriers.

<edit: Remember that the refuelling will involve expenditure of operations points for the refuelled ships, so think carefully about the risks of doing this when the threat level is high.>

I find that if your TF is over 10-units, it sometime takes a 1-day turn to replenish. And if it’s KB on the Pearl Harbor raid, it seems to take 2-days, (or it must be I’m just in a hurry).

I usually set the ac tf to follow rpl tf and it takes a day or two to refuel all the ships (  4 tankers min in the rpl force). usually the destroyers refuel first and then the carriers and heavy surface vessels. sometimes carrier won´t refuel if they have more than 2/3 of ther oil tanks full. be patient and if there is no danger nearby you will refuel in a couple of days following the rpl tf (you have to click repl at sea of course) .

I basically use this method with 100% success when I want to "top off" (either before leaving the vicinity of the rep TF or if the rep TF is almost empty and I want to send it back). Three notes
- Even in the new temporary TF, only some of the ships may refuel when you click refuel (those that are lowest on fuel). No problem. Transfer the refueled ships back to the original TF (you can easily see this because they expended op points), then go to the temporary and click refuel at sea again.
- If your oilers have used 1000 op points, you're done
- If ships are above a certain fuel level, about 10,000 (maybe exactly 10,000; I've never tried to nail it down) I have never seen them refuel at sea.

Taking the advice given here and some testing have concluded that the more AO you have in the refeulling TF the better. Seems that 1 AO can only do so much which seems logical.

The best method appears to be that you isolate the CV in a seperate fleet, replenish them then rejoin them into their original TF. Do the same for any smaller vessel like DD, CA etc.

This prevents the CV's from being used as tankers themselves to fill up the smaller vessels.

This method has worked for me. As the Japanese player, I've moved my carrier TF into thye same hex as the, split out the carriers into a TF, refueled them, then refueled the screen, then brought the carriers back into the screen TF.

I have had trouble as the Allies getting the large capacity AOs to refuel anything.  The smaller 9K AOs work fine.

They will refuel just fine.  I think the issue may be that the 2 TF’s aren’t terminating in the same hex.   I haven’t had any issues on refueling.  And I due this often.    are you hitting the refuel button??

Yes. They won't refuel escorts or the CVs while the 9K AOs do just fine. I sent them back to PH to wait until I have time to test them again. It really isn't hindering my fleet operations at the moment so I have not tried to unscrew it. I am thinking about shooting the CPTs...

I have definitely refueled from the large AOs as allies (20.5K?)

Doesn't mean you aren't having an issue, but at least it's an existence proof that it has worked.

I've tried creating a new CVTF in the hex using only the CVs. Then hit the replenish at sea button and the CV's top up. Transfer the CVs back into the original CVTF taking care cos if you get it wrong you will loose the CVTF admiral in the middle of an operation. There is still a problem with the CV's drawing fuel from CAs or BBs if these are present with full tanks, but I'm pretty sure they aslo take the AOs down about 250 operations points so they must be drawing some fuel from the AO's.
