the programmers do know that this is a grenade launcher and not a rifle right ?

from what I see, it is being modeled like a rifle bullet

(I ask as one of the SMG's is said to be a shotgun)

(neat fact, there is no gunpower in the 40mm shell, the only thing moving it along is the primer cap (now will admit, it is a big primer cap)

Heh, the primer cap for a 40mm probably has more power than the cartridge for a 9mm. You're not the only one, Sarge, who's fired a real 40mm (though in my case, it was only at Fort Knox during training, and the rounds only had "training" charges, not the full-strength explosives).

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Russian devs have never used real heavy weapons (or know much about real guns of any sort, period).

yea, I agree,

I fired the real ones, we had fun with them, the M-79 was better by a mile then the stupid M-203 idea (the background idea is good, but it don't really work as they thought)

very simple weapon, and easy to learn and master, we used to be able to drop the shells right into the middle of a APC with the roof hatch open (makes a neat sound going off inside of that thing :)

ahhh, and yea, you would be shocked if you seen a real one go off after watching the training rounds

but, in game, the thing hits about 20 feet in front of you, since it is trying to flying in a line, instead of arch to the target (looks, like someone put it in, and then someone else finished working it, and didn't know what it was)

I suspect the problem lies within the fact that the Soviet Union/Russia does not have an American style "Gun Culture."  Cowboy Action Shooting, IPSC, IDPA, Defensive Pistol, reloading, etc.  Not to mention those states that allow legal ownership of full-auto weapons and destructive devices; artillery, flame throwers and such.  For example, if I had the money, I could drive over to Westo Coast Machine Guns in Cottage Grove Oregon and buy myself an full-auto STG44, MP5, or G36.

It would appear that most of their design information is based on Hollywood movies and TV.  It is also obvious that their is a clear bias on Soviet/Russian weapons systems.  If you read some of the descriptions of the Western weapons it isn't exactly glowing, the FN/FAL and M1A/M14 for example.  Another example is the Mini 14.  I reads like a review from an anti-Ruger guy.  I personally own/use a semi-stock tactical $400 Mini during Three Gun competition and it runs just as good as the guys using their tricked out $4000 ARs.  IMHO this shows how the Ruskie developers are a little weak on firearms experience.

But there are several variations of the AK platform, but very few of the AR (I've only found two).  I have yet to find any reference to the European G36 platform or the FNH America SCAR platform, just to name a couple.  Yet your find all the latest AK platforms.  Etc., etc., etc...

Just my bitter, clinging small-town Oregon town two cents worth.

The Russian devs at GFI don't seem to have even bothered with looking up info on the site "guns.ru" (which, while Russian, isn't all that noticeably pro-Russian biased), such as this page for the Ruger Mini-14. Frankly, spending time with Google would have benefited the devs immensely, and we'd have a much better game.

yea, I was trying to keep the bias part out of it, but from I have seen, Russian Programmers seem to be very Pro Russian Bias, while Western Programmers tend to want to add in Russian stuff as they think it would be Kewl or show how well rounded they are

the one I liked was about the M-14, I would take that any day over any of the AK's (from a pure combat postion)(and yes, I have used both, and own a SKS)

Alternatively it could just be for gameplay balance.  After all, you probably wouldn't be very happy if the AI was firing grenades blindly at you and your men are dying without you being able to respond.  Realistic, yeah, fun, not really.

Yeah, I found the HG Mini-14 remarks to be ... annoying. I, too, own a Mini-14 (bought mine in 1988).

When I had my M-79 toting Marine squad member in Vietnam trip a boobytrap and nearly lost his leg, as the squad leader I carried his Blooper for a couple of days. They had just deployed the 40mm bouncing Betty round and along with the beehive, buckshot, HE, etc his load of munitions nearly kicked my tail.

The 12-round magazine fed truck/tripod mounted M-79 (don't remember if it got its' own number or not) was just being used on road convoys ('69/'70) and we heard a rumor of a 3-round 40mm clip fed M-79 being used by the Army elsewhere (I was up north in I Corps). Never did see one but did see the rocket pistol several Marine pilots carried at the time (again this was not a sanctioned weapon by the USMC but Marine pilots were a different lot). Whenever I called for an airstrike the Navy guys flew in the clouds (except for Spooky) and dropped their ordinance but the Marine pilots came down in the dirt and flew about waist hight (or so it seemed att he time).

Apparently the variety of 40mm M-79 rounds here looks to be a bit limited? Haven't delved into the game much (I am one of those anal types who lines out each detail before getting into the game). With any luck the patches and mods will be in place so I can really start to analyze the nitty-gritty like the JA series provided that community.

Hi Tyetye

Semper Fi mate

I have only seen the HE round so far, I only used the training, HE and Flare rounds in my day, (they had a Beehive round ? wow, that would be interesting)

I remember the bandaliers for the rounds, they didn't seem to be too bad, but never had to do any real humping with them, but depending on how many you carried with you, I am sure they could get to be a pain (more bulky, combersome then really heavy

Semper Fi

This guy didn't use more then a bandolier or two over his flack jacket but carried some 80 assorted 40mm rounds in his pack! Guess if you have a blooper and a .45 he didn't want to run out of ammo.

I couldn't wait to get a newbie to carry the thing. Then there was the Staff Sergeant that had his wife mail him his favorite shotgun from home. After carrying it around in-country for a week or so he finally broke it down to clean it and found that she "forgot" to include the firing pin! We got a good laugh over that one. He wasn't laughing too loud. He wanted a "hardship" trip back home to address his "marriage problems" but the Corps wasn't buying it. Never did find out what happended when his tour was up.

Did anyone else notice that it is the Russian weapons that always drop?

Naw I have gotten Western Weapons, I found two Grille, at least one M4A1, a couple of pythons , some of those Chilien SMGs, so other stuff does drop, just think the Russian ones stand out more
