I already know that there is a good size Enemy unit here defending, and the battle is going to start out at close range, and I want to get my 2nd Squad some action, they are pretty poor, but don't think they can handle it by themselfs, and do not want to get my 1st Squard into a major fight, as they are a little banged up

so I get both squads together and load up on ammo and do some healing during the night, at dawn, both move out

opening round, I take some damage, but dish back more, 1st Squad has the firepower and exp

1st is on the left while 2nd is on the right, with Fisher coming up the middle in the road, wanted him to have a open line of fire for his 40mm's

Morah rushes forward to get some cover from the large rock, hoping the troops to that side run to the shooting and not around my flank !

Fisher dropped a 40mm that hit the sandbags, hitting the guy behind the bags pretty good, but he still shows he is Healthy, but he got knocked on his butt by the blast

turn two, the enemy is rushing forward and bunching up, Fisher gets off a decent shot and drops 2 troopers

not too trilled with turns 2 and 3, too many trees for Squad one and Squad two can't hit the side of the barn, my blooper is the only thing keeping the enemy honest and the terrain

Morah is going to be in trouble

she has a Uzi that she loves to play with, don't get in front of her, as this guy found out, but she is still in trouble, Lin is moving to support her flank

overall, 2nd Squad looks to be in trouble

finally, got a good kill zone starting to set up, got a decent cross fire, and my bursts, the ones that miss got a chance to hit somebody behind, and the high power rounds got a chance to hit more then one guy as they speed off into the distance

Left Flank is doing great, the right is doing poor, most of the damage on that side is from cross fire from 1st squad, but they are holding

end of turn 4 and things are looking much better, some of the enemy flankers are not showing up, but they have taken a beating so far

as I said before, Dagger and HS (me) are controlling the road and the edge of the woodline, while Gunner fires across there front to keep them covered

don't know what they had, but sure am glad that Bolder was in the way, as is, hurt Morah and knocked her off of her feet (knees ?)

not sure about Lin, but she wasn't the same after that blast, poor AP and couldn't see any of the targets see should of been able to see (shock ?)

starting to get the firepower edge and can start to move, rushing Pitbull across behind the lines to get to my wounded troops (of course Dagger and Caster are not too happy with this shift, think Pitt lost kind of heavy in the last card game the other night)

Dragon has good skills and a good close range weapon, so he is good at doing short rushes and not getting surprised

Caster and Dragon are on the move, Fisher has replaced his Boomer with a rifle and is not advancing, Jabby and Lin are also, but they are very slow, Pitt is about to cross the road and Morah should be ready to pull back for some healing

basicly it is the mop up phase of the attack, move forward, and kill the one left behind (making sure the imbedded newman don't see what is going on, wouldn't want the folks back home to know what really goes on when you are trying to stay alive and do your job)

plus taking your time, as there are still other troops out there who may not of gotten the word that it is time to bug out

Dragon runs into a live one, and healthy at that too !

fires off 3 blind rounds and lands all 3, even better the 2 to the chest do good damage, the bad guy picked the wrong spot to try and ambush my guys

of course, mopping up is dangerous, I take a hit from someone nobody had seen

but he goes down fast afterward, a few more hold outs, and then Bizon (lol, thought that was how his name was spelt) takes a hit he should of (missed a pointblank shotgun blast)

and the it is clean up and gather the goodies

took some damage, but hurt them much worse and got another sector, the bad part is I thought this was the Airport and not the road leading to the airport

take some time to heal up, pick up new goodies from the store and see what needs to be done tomorrow

Thanks Sarge. I always love the time you put into threads like these. Only thing is I am at work and it makes me want to leave and go play

Thank you Sir

we been short of some screen shots of the game in action, so wanted to get some up, for the gang still on the fence

of course, since I was trying to show what was going on, over all, I didn't get many good close up shots of anything and missed most of the nice blasts and bursts going off !

Great report - I'm close to buying this game, now.
One question, Sarge - is it possible to turn off the labels?
They're not exactly discrete and the screen looks a bit cluttered at times with them on...

Hi Briny

yes, you can switch the labels around, think there are 3 different styles, basicly, I used that for it to show up (snap shots don't always show the best detail, as you see it in the game while playing)

I will try and posts some shots with each type of labeling, to give a better idea, also try and get some closer shots, forgot to add those in, was thinking more the over all idea of what I was doing instead of showing off the troops :)

@Hard Sarge:
Thank you for taking the time to make these reports, it's always nice to see how other people play the same game.

From what I noticed we have different playstyles.
You seam to wrap up sectors much faster than I do, 5 or 6 turns is alot less than my turn count... but on the other hand you seam to take much more damage than I do, so I guess the extra time I spend hiding you spend healing ;)

Yesterday's night I only made a few sector and equipment management and hired 2 more mercs: Dragon and Vampire (already had Venom, Dagger and Snook), then it took me 2:30h to clear the Train station, but it was a really fun fight.
I entered from north, coming from starting sector.
Moved Venom (with a SVD and a AKSU) to the roof of the small white house, as well as Dagger (Garand+lazer) and Lila (my char, with a AKM+Colli). They did most of the kills by rooftop sniping.
Snook (Garand with Lazer) and Vampire (Enforcer sniper rifle) were sniping the flanks and supporting Dragon (combat shotgun+lazer +knife). Dragon did 4 or 5 kills, all almost instantly by using several turn to crawl up near isolated targets and then in 1 turn runing and striking 1 or 2 fatal knife attacks to the head of the militians. 3 knife kills around the minimarket, then I camped him inside and he took 2 more militia from the windows (1 shotgun burst to the chest at close range).
In the end of the Train sector I only took a -2hit on my personal character during wrap-up. No big deal, although could have been a problem since my char is the group's medic (50 medic, 85 Acc & Agi, 75 Str).
This fight was a lot of fun, and I really loved the slow and precise strikes, that's why I don't enjoy games with smart pause.

Btw, what do you use for screenshots? I looked in the game manual but it seams the game doesn't take screenshots and Printscreen doesn't work ingame.

well, my normal mode, I don't plan on takeing much damage either :), but one of the reasons I went to do a AAR type on this battle was I knew it was going to be close in battle and may show off the game better

I useing Hypersnap, I had it before but lost it with a HD crash, so I got the demo right now, most of the times it works (get some blank snaps at times ?)

a lot better detail then Printscreen (hmmm, I need to go see if they still know I got paintshop)

oops, ahhh, that was 3 rounds to drop the guy who wasn't looking, slinser seems to work well (LOL shot him twice in the head and he didn't notice, so shot him in the leg and then he figured out I was mad at him :)

Vemon put 3 rounds into the one guy, they went to war with me, then Dragon, tossed a Nade onto the front pouch, then went to work with his fancy shotgun

short and sweet, of course, Vemon took a little damage, but that was from the nade

but got a kick out of this part (and I got 2 hand to hand kills)

Hehe, that 1st mission is a tricky one ;)

I died a load of times before I figured out I could hide my weapons and move up to the Militia and buy a pass, was always fighting them all at same time.

When I found that out I went for the Marauders Hut and positioned my 3 mercs (me, Dagger and Venom) one close to Charles (the leader) and the other 2 by the 2 bodyguards inside the hut, and closed the Hut's door.
Dagger talked to Charles and we didn't reach an agreement so Dagger knifed him in the head until death, eheh
Then Lila (me) put 1 bodyguard in critical shape with a close range MAC-10 burst. Venom killed the other bodyguard with a close range burst too. Turn over.
Next turn another Marauder opened the door and went prone or crouch and missed a shot aimed at Venom, and the rest started coming, but never more than 1 at a time so it was really easy to kill one at a time :P
Offcourse I died several times until I figured out exactly how to do this sector safely.

Safari sector was a real pain to do, maybe the hardest so far because we start on an open area, 1 merc needs to go forward to assure the quest target NPC is freed, and there are no good covers around. On top of that I was trying to minimize the Neutrals deaths, so I had to pull the attention of the Marauders.
Really nasty scenario.

After the 2 beggining scenarios the rest all seam a lot easier to do because we always get plenty of cover, so it's only a matter of taking it really slow and watch for grenades.
Shooting the legs works well against grenade throwers ;)
