OK, I am just about to find out if this has cost me the game. In my ongoing and very close game against Boogada we're in mar/Apr 17. The CP (me) basically needs to take Paris within a couple of turns or they'll probably lose the game. And then - for the umptieth time - rail movement doesn't seem to work properly, meening I didn't get my corps and assault troops in position as I would have liked.

This is what I do: I move some units out of a hex and rail fresh units in. If I've understood correctly, rail movement happens at the end of the impulse, after regular movement, so I'm not overstacking. So why don't my corps arrive at destination but remain where they started? This happens all the time. Also, my rail points are still deducted although my units actually don't move. None of the selected destination hexes were subject to attack.

Maybe I'm wrong and you can't rail units into hexes that start fully stacked. If so, why does the game still indicate that these hexes are eligible?

I agree with you that there is an issue with railmovement in 1.30 which I assume you are using? Having just finished a game against Lascar the Yanks basically had to walk their way through France. There was also a nasty habit of units not carrying out simple movement orders when stacks where being filled to the limit (but guaranteed no overstacking)

We did begin that game at 1.30 C, upgraded to 1.30 F and downgraded to 1.30 C again. This may have messed something up in the save files though I can't see this should have been the cause.

But to give you some info you can use.

Yes rail movement is supposed to happen at the end of the impulse that is after movement, combat and withdrawal. In any case trying to rail movem directly to the front should only be tried if lines are stable or very important. Otherwise always rail to the rear area. Remember to keep enough rail movement to carry out the rail movement for BOTH the owner country of the unit as well as controller of all hexes being moved through.

So if you try to rail Germans from Austrian occupied hexes to France you need to spend both Austrian as well as German rail movement say maybe 4 Austrian and then 5 German´to move 1 Corps from Balcan to France. Unfortunately you are allowed to try to carry out a rail move for which there not are enough rail movements for.

You don't mention whether you succeed in moving out all units in the hexes which you are trying to rail into?

Playing the ET in the game Kaliber mentions I have no trouble with rail movement. But I use to refrain from trying to rail into front hexes because if the battle is ongoing the rail movement is very likely to fail. The Russian front, that is stable, allows me to rail in and out though.

My units carried out all the movement orders I had given them (at least I think so). There was no combat in any of the hexes I tried railing into. All units were railed (or attempted railed) from Germany. We upgraded from 1.3 c to 1.3 f during the course of the game and we're still playing that version. I know the units wouldn't have arrived if my opponent had attacked the hexes I railed or moved into, but the situation was so critical and time so pressing that it was well worth taking the risk. As I say, this has happened many times before during the course of our game. I often seem to lose the rps too, even though my corps are not moving. Occasionaly, it has happened twice in a row that I've railed units out from Berlin and nothing happens.

I conclude that there's apparently a very serious issue with german rail movement in version 1.3. The problem seems to be particularly acute if you order a lot of units to move by rail in one impulse.

I also think I've had the issue with simple movement order not being carried out. On a couple of occasions, I've found myself attacking with only two or three corps, although I was certain that I ordered 4 corps to attack and these corps where not otherwise inhibited.

Another (minor) problem is that the computer says a hex is ineligible for rail movement although it actually is (and the units ordered to move during rail movement appear on the destination hex).

I really hope Frank can take a look at this soon, as well as all the other issues. Actually I think this problem is even more critical than the resourse transportation cost or the problem with ottoman production.

And by the way: If I remember well, the problem with CP rail movement seems to be limited to France (once again). That being said, I'm not sure if I remember correctly.
