I just finished "The Palace" battle. After eliminating all of The Guardsmen I searched the underground bunker and found The Dictator. Before I talked to him I saved the game under a different name. You can either kill him or help him.

If you kill The Dictatro the game ends and goes to a Cut Scence. You get your money, hop on a plane at the airport and as you are taking off, one of Janus' men kills you.

If you help/ally with The Dictator, Janus, the Butsi, and the Marauders turn against you. Any sectors already taken by you and your team are lost and will have to be retaken. That means fighting any Merc/Militia units you purchased. All improvements and income are lost. You do however find the locations of the Marauders Outpost, Pirate Island and one other map location. Any areas still held by The Dictator now become your allies.

I believe that this is one of several "story archs" possible in the game. Doesn't seem to affect the UN Base though.

A very similar thing happens when you go to the Butsi village after rescuing the Shaman. You get an e-mail from Janus accusing you of treachery and all your sectors become hostile toward you. You lose the Helo ability as the airport is no longer you control and any stockpiles of weapons you had in any sectors are also gone unless you re-capture the sector. So careful planning is needed before you become trapped at the Butsi village without helo or resupply. I suggest moving all your "needed" supplies to the north road sector as it along with safari sector stays yours and you need not fight there to resupply. You will have to move by jeep to get there though.... Not far from Butsi village though.

I cleared the safari then used the pass to go straight to the palace to join the dictator.   However, he is not in his palace.   Do I have to take a sector before he appears there?  I basically want to join his faction and win the game that way.

For Sinjen,

I found him in one of the corner rooms of the underground bunker (beneth the helo pad).  I had already taken over half of the sectors in the game by the time I reached the Palace.  Whether or not this affects when or if the Dictator appears is something that I cannot answer.  However, if you elect to side with the Dictator, more sectors open up to you, but then you have the problems (options??) I  mentioned in the first post.  In my opinion, the Dictator is "more good" than Janus anyhow.  But then again, being a merc is all about the action.

Well, the fact that you're employed by someone called "Janus" (after the two-faced God) is a not-so-subtle clue that you're going to be stabbed in the back sometime.

You get the first hint at the Safari, though the money for taking Janus's side is too good to pass up early in the game.

I finished my first game today. When I got down to the bunker and found the dictator, he did not beg for his life or offer me the chance to take his side. He basically said "Up yours, I'm going down fighting", and the battle began. Of course, if was a short-lived battle after Dagger(or was that Digger, Sarge ) put a three round burst into his head.

What a bloody battle is was, too. Out of ten mercs that went in, two died and four were very seriously injured. In fact, nobody escaped without at least some injury.

That was a very satisfying gaming experience. I'm starting game number two tonight.

I played the game 3 times by now and in any case I didn't see the dictator. Where is he? I searched every room in the Palace and I couldn't find him. I tryed playing for Janus, captured all the main (key) sectors and then Palace. When I enter the underground bunker, there's nobody there. I even started a new game, went directly to Palace and couldn't find dictator again. Can someone please explain to me how to find him or is this a bug or something?!?! I can't play the game if the dictator is not present in the Palace...

did you did the Janus Betrayal mission ? (email tells you to go talk to Janus )

I wonder if that is not the trigger for the end mission

for me, he is in the undeground bunker, you walk down the hallway (all the way to the left) make a turn and he is standing there, and you get lips instead of a target icon

I am thinking there got to be a trigger, as it doesn't really make sense to run the mission, and then talk to him and change sides out of the blue, really, the only real reason in a game, to change sides, is if you feel something is not as it seems

then again, you need to kill him, to get the standard ending, so not really sure what is wrong

in my game, I seen him, talked to him, and then agreed to change sides (other option was to kill him)

For a moment, I thought that he wasn't in my game, either. I had looked in every room in the bunker of the palace, but I couldn't find him. But upon further inspection, he was in the same place that Sarge found him, but you can't see him unless your Merc turns exactly the correct direction. This is similar to during battles when the coast looks clear to a merc until they actually start moving, then see that enemy that was there all the time. Kind of annoying, but I bet he's really there. When you enter the room in the bunker with the office desk, have your Merc look in the NW corner of that room.

Yeah well... I did the mission when they invited me to small village (McKonen village). After that I did the Palace mission and after win, I searched the area 10 times or so and didnt' find him...
Anyway, I read in one of the topic when someone said you can get directly to the dictator right after the north road and than join with dictator... I tryed the hint, but he was not there...
I will try to play from the start again (my 4th time) and see if I get lucky... :) But if somebody knows if this is a bug or I should do something before taking the Palace mission, please tell me...
If sombody have saved game where I can see the dictator, that would halp too...

Interesting, Sarge. When I found him in the room, I had to have my merc turn to the NW. But that's the same room I found him in.

well, I am sure he moves around some, but it is interesting that it looks like you do not see him, if you just walk right into the room, you have to turn to spot him

I've experienced the missing Dic when playing the Janus campaign(first beta patch and all sectors under my control). When playing the marauders and Butsi campaigns he was in the room Hard Sarge and Slick Wilhelm mentions. I'm currently playing a new campaign (first offical patch)and I made a save after the safari mission and went to the palace but the Dic wasn't there. I'm planning to work for the Dic so I hope he's there this time.

I am playing for marauders now... I gave up on working for Dictator since i couldn't find him... Maybe I play again with another patch released...
I wonder if the marauders include any quest with dictator, though? What will I do when I must see him (or can't see him)?!?!

How do you get to work for the marauders?

I'm working for the Butsi now. I did this by freeing the sharman from the military base. I then send a single runner to the Butsi village to get the gift and form the alliance with the rest of the team waiting at the airport.

Sure enough, the minute I hook up with the natives, Janus turned on me and as my team has camped at the airport, I immediately took it back. Now I have everyone on my back except the Butsis.

Since now I'm buddies with the natives, I'm going to the UN camp to see if there's anything there. If that UN Commissioner still refuse to talk to me, I'm going to do a Srebrenica on his blue helmets.

Question is, if I now go ahead and wipe out Butsi village, does that mean I no longer work for them? If so, does the sectors currently under the Butsi flag ie. the village & the airport then goes under my own flag? How do you start "working" for yourself, so to speak.

How do you get to work for the marauders? Talk to them at the beginning of the game (at the Safari map where they captured the bus)

I guess it will be you against everyone.
