Keep it up, seems like you're carrying the WPO AAR forum all by yourself ;)

...hey apparently I'd never posted on the Matrix forums before, look at that!

Here is a battle screenie. My DDs were superior to his but these old pre-Dreadnoughts would have been no match for 2 Jap Dreadnoughts, let alone four!

The Pac Flt battle line has replenished at Kendari and is off to Tarakan. The Pac Flt scouting force and the replenishment group have not yet arrived. I have 3 Dutch subs at Tarakan - how did they miss the fact that Jap squadron was there?
edit I REALLY hope that I can catch and annihalate this detached force before Martin realises where Pac Flt is - that would be the dream scenario...

The screenie shows the worst damaged SOPAC ships. The 4 top vessels are not yet back at Balikpapan. Of the other group, Rochester, Reuben James, Gamble, Breese and Waters are off to Soerabaya for temporary repair and assessment.

1st Cav is still unloading at Soerabaya. CL New Orleans has left Batavia to join what is left of SOPAC force at Balikpapan.

06/09/22 - No combat to report

100,000 tons of supplies are unloading at PH. Once the AKs are empty I will start to load the Wake Force. VP-2 has been picked up from Canton and is on it's way to Balikpapan.

The Pac Flt Scouting Force has refuelled at Kenadri and is sailing to support the Battle Line. The lastt damaged ships from Tarakan have arrived back at Balikpapan. They have disbanded to deal with their flooding (I hope). See screenie for latese update.

103rd USAAS Base Force has loaded onto AKs at Canton and will head for Balikpapan.

DD Pruitt is repaired at Bombay and will cruise to Balikpapan, as will DD Alden from Singapore. DD Pope (sys 14) will sail from Singapore to Colombo to free up Singapore dockyard for major vessels.

Ouch, the 4 IJN Dreadnoughts are a definite killer task force. How do you plan to counter them?

I do so enjoy reading this AAR where aircraft do not rule the game. A very good antidote for all the AAR's on the main WITP forum. Much appreciated.

6 DDs left PH to hunt a sub spotted off Midway.

The screenie shows Pac Flt approaching Tarakan. There are 9 Dreadnoughts present, not 7 as I posted earlier. Apologies for the misinformation.

Central Pacific

14th Tank Co is unloading at PH. Once all ships are empty I will start to load up for the Wake Operation. I was looking at task force composition and was struck at the massive difference between pre-Dreadnoughts (see screenie). A Jap sub has been sighted at Baker Island. Martin is definitely getting more aggressive with his subs - it's a shame I cannot find his surface ships when I want them...

DEI, SEAC and China Station

2 more US DDs arrived at Balikpapan and joined the US/Dutch light forces offshore. BB Connecticut (24/0/0) is sailing from Balikpapan for Colombo for repairs. DD Pope will now head for Diamond Harbour to make way. All the less seriously damaged US ships (under 40 sys) will be repaired locally, paid for in gold. Anything with damage of 40 or over will be sent back to CONUS. I think this is realistic and non-gamey, but am happy to be convinced otherwise if anyone disagrees?

CV Argus arrived at Singapore. The 6 DDs that escorted her from Colombo will return to escort the soon to arrive pre-Dreadnought Agammemnon. S-9 has completed repairs at Diamond Harbour and will proceed to patrol off Sasebo. R-25 sailed from Canton to patrol off Nagasaki.

The Dutch AK that was unloading at Manado is going to try to run away. The Pac Flt scout force has been detached at full speed after topping their bunkers off (see screenie). The Battle Line will sail to Kendari to await developments.

CL New Orleans arrived to bolster the light force off Balikpapan. 2 barely damaged DDs are sailing to join from Soerabaya.

S-7 (sys 1) is sailing from Canton to Takao to replace S-2 (sys 12).

The following units are loading at PH for Wake:

14th Tank Co
21st NG Tank Co
AEF HQ
2nd US Marine Brigade
299th NG Rgt
250th Coast Artillery
19th Engineers
117th USN Base Force

I have not got a clue whether it will be enough, but it is all that I have...

I have sent the Pac Flt BBs after my cruisers as a distant covering force. If the cruisers do find Martin's battlewagons I will need to be close enough to catch them...

CA Brooklyn (sys 44) sailed from Balikpapan to Brisbane. DD Reuben James (sys 49) left Soerabaya for Port Moresby, while DD Gamble (sys 20) sailed from Soerabaya to Bombay.

In China some of my forces have reached Tsingtao to find 8 Jap units there. I am bombarding to see what they are, but may get kicked out of the hex before the trailing Corps comes up. I have ordered 1st Cavalry Corps to come South from the border to assist. Maybe I should have put my US Cavalry Division ashore in China after all...

The AEF HQ and supplies are still loading at PH for the Wake Operation. I reckon the supply transports will probably take four days to load.

My cruiser force found nothing at Menado. They will return to Kendari to waut for the next move, as will the Pac Flt battle line. The cadre of 31st US Infantry is unloading at Balikpapan after transport from Canton. S-2 disbanded for repair at Canton with system damage of 12 points.

At Tsingtao my troops have found a major Jap force and will try to run to Kaifeng and Nanking before they are engaged...

The Pac Flt Scouting Force will head to Amboina (see screenie).

Supplies are being sent from Kendari to Koepang and Lautem. Further shipments are leaving Batavia for Northern Australia. 1 USN DD with 10 points of system damage is heading from Soerabaya for Singapore. Another with 6 points is accompanying CA Rochester (also 6 points) back to Balikpapan to join the light USN force there. The 1st elements of 1st US Cav Div are loading at Soerabaya for Kendari.

The British 72nd Infantry Brigade has arrived at Karachi and will stay there.

In China, the only units still in the Tsingtao hex are the HQ and 16th Corps, Martin did not attack for some reason and they should get clear before he does.

Central Pacific

Wake Force has sailed...

Far East

The Jap BB Aki was already damaged at the start of the battle of Ambon. She was plastered with 6 inch, 5 inch, 4 inch and 3 inch shells, but early in the battle scored a telling main armament (30.5 cm) hit on CL Birmingham. The damage to USS Charleston and USS Birmingham is featured on the battle screenshot below. They are heading for Kendari, as is the rest of the task force. Both ships are very experienced. The third USN CL did not engage and has low night fighting experience, so I will not send them back into the fight with their two best ships missing and many DDs with torpedoes depleted.

Pac Ft is back at Kendari and will remain there to avoid showing their presence too early. The damaged Pre-Dread' Orgeon (sys 51) left Balikpapan for Brisbane. Kendari is out of fuel; more is being sent. 3 more DDs arrived to join the cruiser led force off Balikpapan.

Edit I will have to check my ship art as the shils did not show up with the updated Dixie sides...

The RN BB Agamemnon (last of the British Pre-Dreadnoughts and completed after Dreadnought, I believe) arrived at Colombo. She sailed for Singapore and will join up with the Colombo DDs en route.

R-25 left Nagasaki for Canton to rearm. S-3 will move from Amami to replace her.

The Chinese base that fell is in Manchuria.

I am curious about the dots on the map, tiny red, white, blue ones right under a base's name. What do they mean? And how is it possible to incorporate them in the game?

They are a feature on Subchaser's maps and indicate the presences of oil and resources etc. I posted a screenie of the key earlier on and will do so again when I get a chance to play the next turn (maybe Saturday).

Bugger! I just remembered that I was meant to take a screenie of the map key - I will try to remember for next time...

Central Pacific

2MLs and 3 DMs are off from PH to thicken the mines at Midway. 6 more DDs are going to the same place to join the sub hunt. Wake Force has only moved two hexes so it will be weeks before I know how much of a gamble it was...

DEI

The Dutch Molukken garrison, ejected from Amboina with heavy losses, is moving to Bulla. The Pac Flt scout force (what is left fit to fight, anyway) has reached Kendari and used the lst of the fuel. I do not want to dip into what is on the oilers yet.

Malaya/India

US DD Pope (sys 13) disbanded at Diamond Harbour for repair. With the deteriorating situation in the theatre and the fact a fleet is on the way which will need it's harbour defended, it has been decided that Malaya will be reinforced. 72nd Indian Brigade at Karachi is loading for Kuantan. 2nd Indian Division at Dacca will move to Diamond Harbour and plan for Singapore. A convoy of troopships will leave Karachi for Diamond Harbour to pick them up.

China

2 Chinese CLs at Hong Kong have reached 2 points of system damage. They will sail to rejoin the fleet at Canton. Operations to find out what Martin is up to and hopefully cause him some problems will then be launched.
