I am thinking about recomending this game for a friend of mine for me and him to play online together real time.
Can it be played as one player commanding all the allied and the other commanding all the axis forces.
One player U.S. Britain France Russia and the other Germany and Japan?

Yes it can, but on the allied side there is also China. In fact the WA comprehend the UK, France, US, the Axis in Europe has also Italy and Hungary Bulgary and Rumania, Wanderinghead is currently working on enhacing his mod so those nations have their on counters as well as India, Poland...

I highly recomend you get this game, it's damn adictive though I have never played it online, the way it works using pbem is just great, it could be the same as online if you talk to your friend and both are ready to answer inmediately.

Thanks for the quick reply, using team chat we can talk while we play. Can you look around the map when the other player is doing his turn?

I don't know! I would be willing to try this (my moves are generally fast - sometimes sloppy - taking 5-10 minutes) if anyone is willing.....

I really don't know, I only tried online playing once while the game was under development and could not advance too much, but I guess you can look at the map while your opponent is doing the turn. I recall you could set a timer for doing the turn and if you set it to 15 minutes once the game is advance you'll better have it clear what you want to do. Turns can take from 30 to 60 minutes in some cases.

To be serious, I would reiterate that the PBEM functionality works great. I can't comment on the TCP/IP thing, but if you set it to 10-15 minutes I think it could be doable.  A bit like speed chess.... Despite what RJH says, most turns are pretty fast at the beginning and end of the game. Only the mid-game stuff can get complicated.... I also turn off all animations and displays, so perhaps that hastens my play as well...

Don't get the game to play online real time. I'm afraid that it has never worked very well and is not supported. After several patches which have *not* focused on online play, I'm afraid I don't expect it would work.

2by3 developed the game to be an excellent PBEM game, and it is. 2by3 also sunk a lot of time in the online play, and I think they agree that it was ultimately a wasted effort.

You could still have fun in the same room and exchange files as though playing PBEM, or hotseat.

Although I have not tried the real time play, I am not sure that it would much advantage over PBEM play (or hotseat). The save files are not large and do not take much time to upload/download over a regular connection. Too, there is a view mode that allows one to look at the map etc. as a given side (password protected) or from a neutral point of view. Basically, it only takes a few moments to send/receive/open a game file. Then one may peruse what has been done using a turn history function (goes back one three-month cycle) and review specific battles etc. Once you have a handle on game mechanics, none of this takes particularly long. As I mentioned, one is able to disable the time-consuming eye candy (move animations, videos, etc.). This also speeds things up as well.

An excellent game.
