Is this a stand alone or do you need War in the Pacific to play this version?

What is the release ETA, some of the screens say buy now but when you try to use them they say error.

You must have WITP installed. They have said AE will check for that when it starts. From then on, it's standalone.

I guess if I have to buy both War in the Pacific and this it will cost about 100 bucks. The specs say Vista is not supported. I don't have an old XP machine to play it on. Will it work on Vista compatablity mode for Win XP?

Does this game give false siting reports? I used to play QQP's War in the south pacific. I liked how you had control on when you launched planes but that game gave some real false sitings, 3 transports reported as a carrier taskforce.

It will work on Vista..............I am running Vista, and original WITP runs just fine on it and I have never played with the compatability.

I know some testers are running Vista.

I am about 90% sure you can install the original and AE on different drives.  I have that set up on my test computers.

AE runs under Vista.  I've done it.  One tester managed to get it to run on Windows 98, but they must have stripped the OS to the bone to do it.  The only resource that requires more than the original game is memory.  Windows 95/98/ME are limited to 512 MB of RAM.  AE and the OS on one of those older OSs is a very tight fit.    Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista have much larger memory limits.

We also have a tester who runs AE under Macintosh's Bootcamp and someone else who has run it under a Windows emulator for Linux.  I'm not sure about the performance in those modes, though Bootcamp running XP is pretty much like any other Windows machine, just with Mac hardware.

I tested the game on Windows 2K, XP, and Vista.  All ran fine with no problems.  Running on the same hardware, XP was slightly faster than 2K or Vista (we're talking a couple percent difference to execute a turn).

I never install anything (application wise) on "c" drive on my boxes - I use that for my boot loader partition ... WITP and AE both run fine on any drive.

And I'm not sure where the report came from about VISTA. We're not aware of any VISTA issues for WITP or AE.

Maybe in USA WitP is so expensive but in Poland it cost ~4 usd http://allegro.pl/item521195170_wbk_war_in_the_pacific.html So beter look on some internet shops, becouse some distributors can sell this cheaper.

Yes it does - it's the Fog of War (FOW) option - inaccurate sightings, under/over estimated losses/damage, false hits on ships, delay on confirmation of enemy ships sunk, it's all there.

No and No. You give orders for either 1, 2, or 3 day turns (your choice) and then execute the turn. Playing another human is PBM (PBEM). You give your orders, ave the turn and send to your opponent. I'm leaving out the details for the sake of a brief answer.

You don't manually launch strikes, but you can tweak almost everything relating to strikes: number of fighters on CAP (or escort, or sweep, or ground attack), altitude of aircraft, percentage of bombers and fighters flying, course of the CV and its task force, the leader of each ship in the TF, the leader of each aircraft squadron, whether to refuel before or after a battle, whether to stay on station or retire, etc.

That said, sometimes people new to the WITP/UV engine are frustrated that they don't have direct tactical control over carrier launches. But there's a pretty good argument for the way WITP does it: it rewards good strategic and operational thinking. In the long run, if you deploy your assets sensibly, you'll do well, even if in the short run you may get unlucky.
