Good chance it might be out sometime this year. Probably next year by the latest. Slim possibility of maybe the year after.

Or it could be released on AEpril Fools.

Actually, that would be funny. After all the kidding around "it doesn't exist", announce "IT'S GOING GOLD" on April Fools. When it finally happens, we won't believe you.

I was under the impressiong that things were more or less wrapping up? (ie. it has been stated a number of times by AE members that nothing new was being added at this point)

I thought Q1 2009 was the current goal? Or was that a typo and it should have been Q1 2011?

Thanks in advance

Chad

Well truth be told, its been done for a year. Its just that we enjoy playing one another and we enjoy hearing the rest of you whine about it so much that we havent bothered to --

Ummm who's that creeping up beh

Edit: Seriously, no one wants it done more than those of us working on it. Change some things, run some tests. The next week new fixes, start over. Change some things, test, the next week start over. I havent gotten out of Dec 41 in months.

Note to self: Don't ask anyone on the playtest team to play a PBEM.........

None of us squibs are at liberty to discuss the schedule for release publicly.  This area is completely under Matrix's control.  It's their call.

This has been and continues to be my biggest complaint, no new info and no regular project updates or progress reports, aside from the smug, which really makes everyone feel so much better.
I like everyone, I hope, wants the game done right first and foremost. A little update would just be appreciated from people who are going to be asked at some point to ante up to get it. For me, patience not being a virtue, when info is not forthcoming, just move on. If/When it is done come back and see if it still interests you or whether your interests have changed, if so just stay away.

I agree. I wish Matrix would give us some information. No information at all is worse than a delay due to bug problems.

Awww.. Come on guys, I think they are giving us as much information as they can.

Joe W is always posting things like "we did a new build to fix an AI problem and we are testing it this week..." I don't believe there is much more that can be said other than that as what comes next depends on the result of this testing. They have given (and are always updating) the projected release date (currently Q1 2009).

About the only extra information they could possibly provide are things like a detailed bug/problem list which is quite rightly an internal project management item not for general release (though they have given lots of hints of what is on it).

Give the developers a chance to breath and get on with their job.

Amen. From what I can glean it seems they have pretty much decided what they want in it. Now they are just trying to make sure it works correctly. Truth is it probably could be released very soon if it was just a PBEM game. The AI loses its mind in a PBEM game and you probably can fix it before it causes a problem. Not true in an AI game. Don't forget the only audience is not those of us who already play WItP. I would assume Matrix would like to sell a few copies to new users.

For those who want data on or status and what we are doing - I would take this whole sub-forum as exactly that. I'll admit I can't compare us to other games - and the info they provide - but I do know that we regularly post both details and high level about exactly what we are doing - right here in this sub-forum. So keep reading and you should know as much as we do about where we are!!!

Joe, you make a good point, and I'd like to thank you for supporting this forum. I read it every day and appreciate the information you share with us.

I just wish we had some insight into the release date.

Think of it like a book. We, the AE Team are writing the book and Matrix are the publishers. So Matrix determines the actual publication schedule, not the AE team. But, if you want to know how close to "done" we are, just read this sub-forum and use your judgment. I actually think our remarks are extremely candid - and provide more than a "good clue" as to where we are at!

Re-stated there is no set publication date - Matrix really does not do set publication dates - what we have is a list of gating items and we are working that list. At the top of that list is AI Testing - in fact that might as well be stated to be THE gating item at this point - the few other items on the list are almost trivial in comparision. So we are testing the AI from a number of different perspectives. Trying to balance historicity with a challenging game for the players. This "balance" is the tough part. The mechanics are done - tweaks to the scripts continue.

The times you can take Terminus seriously is about the same as most people like their steak - very rare. But, most of us want it the way I like my steak - well done.

I am sorry, I just do not get the lingo of about 90% of the WiTP posts.  I am sure this is due to my low intellect.  With that said, I am unclear of what is fact and what if fiction on the release date?  If anyone responds to this, can you please dumb down the response for me with a time frame?  Thank you.

Sorry, Knavey... If I wanted rare steak I'd rip off a chunk as the bull ran by.. besides, that's why God gave us fire - to barbecue with.

There is a big difference between low intellect and ignorance. Ignorance simply means you don't know, low intellect means you can't get it no matter how long and hard you try. I suspect ignorance rather than low intellect. I don't think many people of low intellect are actually going to attempt to play WitP.

Matrix does not announce the release date for games until all development work is completely done. Officially, there is no release date yet. The development is well along, but I'm not at liberty to say when our target date is. The posts about AE being fiction are jokes, and the posts stating dates are either wild speculation, or jokes.

Matrix will make an official announcement when development is done and a release date is set.

Bill
