Just in case nobody has noticed, WWI made it into the top ten PC games at Gamespot.

Its got to be the worst game ever released with all the problems people are having getting it too run.  Including me!  But I haven't given up yet.

It is not that bad after all, at least it inspired me to play Guns Of August again. And I am enjoying that one quite a lot while I am waiting for the playable version of WWO.

P.S.
I am playing WWO anyway and I am enjoying it already. But GOA helps if I get to frustrated for the moment. But it tells, that I come back to WWO time after time

Maybe is not yet ready for market, but is one of the best wargames of this year. Patience is the best friend of the wargamer. WitP is maybe the best wargame i've ever played, but was unplayable until the 3rd patch.

I wish more good strategic games like WWI were released, althought they did in "bad shape".

Quite true, I think patience will be rewarded. However...

Not true, I'm not sure what created this impression. I was playing WITP in Beta not to mention the original release, with no problems. It was certainly improved by the first three updates, not to mention having bugs fixed, but I don't recall any that rendered it unplayable - and this process is still ongoing, as with many games of that complexity level.

When i say unplayable i mean that WitP, in its original release, had serious bugs. Maybe WitP was playable but not at 100%. I began to play six month later after its release because it had serious problems related with the playability and, like me, a lot of people waited some months for a better polish version before playing the great campaign.

Don't take offense, i was only trying to compare one great game (WitP) with another who could be a must have (WWI).

No problem, but it's clear to me that if you didn't play it until six months after its release, then that's why you and I have different perspectives on how playable it was during that period.

Not only were there bugs in WITP, it just was not finished. So that means the parts that werent finished were UNPLAYABLE.

All one needs for confirmation of this, is to simply read the interview (over at the Wargamer?) with Gary and Joel.

The scope of WITP was incredible and it just wore Gary out (as stated more or less in the interview). Sometimes I wonder if he was kinda goaded into doing it, because it was just hard to find a suitable sequel to Uncommon Valor.

I also think Gary liked the old UV map scale better, but at the time, AI turn processing also helped in determining a new scale for WITP.

I have played WITP since it was released........what parts were not finished and unplayable? I sure have not found any. Any game has bugs........some very big ones.........95% of the really big ones have been corrected in WITP long ago.

I do not think a single game has ever been released without bugs. In the last 15 years anyway. The more complex, the more chance for bugs.

Such games always take time to develop properly. As i said, many times i should add, having been a reviewer myself and knowing how long it takes to master complex wargames it is likely they just saw a glance of the game concepts. AGEod has also a reputation as credible dev house...the review was owed considering the long-term perspectives and where AGEod comes from but as to the reliability of the rankings and marks, there's no way they can have had time to master the game (even at this early stage) and consider its real value (which most certainly is higher than many think at this point in time and which will surely acquire points in the long run).

WWI is one of worst PC game ever released!

The glamorous presentations and anticipations from AGEod have been fully disappointed!
The Game hit the stores, 2 months ago, in a pre-beta state, severely bugged, unstable and unfinished!
The complex game was release without a game-manual support: the paper manual included in the box does not even include basic rules. The electronic rules-book quoted in the paper manual was not included in the installation DVD because not yet edited!
But that all AGEod attempts to get out of thoubles by patch release have been frustrated.

I cannot say the way WWI got a so high score at Gamespot: probably they reviwed the game without even runnig it of they checked an optimized demo. No other explanation: bugs are the only thing getting out of WWI gaming!

Got the demo with the last patch and the demo is basically a full version of the game for 15 days... IDK what your talking about Jasta but I have had two crashes in well over 10 hours of playing... For a game that they are still working on that is more than acceptable. The game was released and very poor shape but in my opinion its a very good game now that most of the bugs are gone.

I can't remember everything now, but did you try to find the interview? Here are a few things that come to mind.

1. Many elements of the GUI...

2. Japanese production.

3. Tons of planned scenarios that just were never started or finished.

4. The Pilot stuff.

5. Auto transport (I think)...

You do know the game is supposed to be complete when they publish it, right?

Not sure why Jasta decided to dig this up again but his criticisms are not unwarranted.

Dig up again?
Indeed I'm just starting going after the issue, now!

I bought the game: I knew the troubles reported by first gamers and decided to keep WWI on my bookcase, uninstalled!
Now, two months later game release and many patching attempts I suppose I'm in the right to expect WWI is running:
That's not!
Yes, we had a possible increase in stability!
Uncompletes scenarios have been finished.....
Anyway the game is too far from matching all features enlisted in the box or stated at game official presentation on the net.

It's then to be pointed out it's not first time AGEod stops supporting own games improvements, before they reached a decent level: that to say stability and those features they stated when presenting a new game!

For sure my criticisms are not unwarranted!
I bought a game based over that was stated on the net and on the Game box!
I payed for it!
I expect to get what I payed for!

BTW, my name is JastaV: do not know Jasta at all!!!!!

Since when did 2 crashes in 10hrs. become acceptable to players? I can't believe people accept new games in such a condition. Companies continue to release broken products, and consumers buy it and make excuses for the company!

Guess the topic here was a bit different!
Gamespot Top 10 : Just in case nobody has noticed, made WWI into the top ten PC games at Gamespot.

I was looking to Gamespot as a serious reviewing subject.
Do I need start thinking it's not?

Games are to be reviewed over critic, standard parameters, especially in matter of official reviewing.
Games are to be judged over the way they run and look at the reviewing time, not over a long term improvements perspective.
Notice I have many games in my collection never improved of fixed to a decent level.

Players have chance to post own reviews, (at Gamespot site, too): most of time they reflect player's attitude for a game.
I had chance to read many negative consumer-reviews, just because players were wrong in the game choice: if you dislike sport at all you should not by a sport-action game!
In matter of AGEod WWI the thing is remarkably different: even liking the kind of game and the subjects buyers cannot enjoy it because of game proven deficiencies.

Now, when Gamespot put Ageod WWI in the Top 10 games the program was bugged, instable, unfinished, with no game-manual assisting player in the mess of complex rules.
I'm really disappointed with Gamespot WWI review in so far it's customers deceiving. Notice AGEod took advantage from the fact, quoting the very positive review at its forum pages too.

JastaV, you are bordering the pathetic here, really.

All this WW1 on the Gamespot Top 10 thing is just an ironic joke about the game botched release.

I will really appreciate if you could please post a link of that non existing Gamespot review you talk about like if you had read it... and specially about that forum post on which "AGEod took advantage from the fact, quoting the very positive review at its forum pages too."

I can forgive you don't get the joke, but the part about AGEOD quoting is just a PURE AND SIMPLE LIE

Nobody on AGEOD has so much imagination as to quote imaginary reviews

All that Gamespot has ever published about the AGEOD WW1 game is here
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/worldwarone/index.html

You have some screens and... hey, look! one user review who by coincidence is... you!
At least you give the game a 1 and not 0

If you want to keep you childish and revengeful smearing campaing against AGEOD with any credibility, please check you sources first and stop embarrassing yourself

Regards

PS: just for the information of the rest of the people around, JastaV have been a very active AGEOD forums member (more that 1.200 posts) and has done some really awesome mods and scenarios for other AGEOD game (Napoleon Campaigns).
Unfortunately, all his great modding talent is also accompanied by an even greater ego.
It seems recently he felt his modding efforts were not supported and encouraged enough by AGEOD and from day to night he has turned in number one AGEOD's hater.
This may explain to you the reasons behinds some of his ramblings.

Possibly removed?

Just to make things clear, it's better to point out the 3rd party nature on my mods: no AGEod officialized.
Beeing you then part for long time of same Modding Team, you well know the missed officialization of my works was not the reason why things gone "wrong" with AGEod.
Others as Clovis underlined wrongly that point!

You also well know censorship and dictatorship mesures ruling AGEod forum life: unfortunately those measures worsened and poisoned our constructive friendship too. Hope you will not negate the point.

I apreciate very much your words here: without irony!
I apreciate even more the fact you are signing your words!
You know the practice of anonymous deletion and boycott at AGEod was one of the reasons that lead me to leave.
It could have been very easy for me, to come here posting with a different nikname, but JastaV.
I didn't.

BTW, I please you to carry hone, (AGEod) my greatest thanks to all ones going on with old practice of canning offensive message in my box!

Finally, You pointed out my competence in matter of modding and editing. Others did that same publicly.
I assume that same competence gives me chance to evidence out all troubles, most of time unsolved, affecting AGEod products. It'll be my care.

Yes, i have been also involved a little on your modding team (until you kick me off without warning, by the way )and know from first hand that while your work is great you REALLY love to dramatize, victimize and antagonize
About the "censorship and dictatorship measures ruling AGEod forum life" all i can say is that as anyone except the most trollish or desillusional can confirm, that forum is one of the most civil, friendly and lightly moderated forums i have ever posted on.
I don't even think nobody had been banned from there ever

You must learnt to differentiate things: that some people don't agree with your views does not mean that they are boycotting your or censuring you
About or friendship, what "poisoned it" was that i "dared" to not agree with your (bad guys/good guys) views. From that moment on i became your enemy, as all the AGEOD members baddies in your list.

By the way, to not go so off topic, i'm still waiting for the link where the baddies at AGEOD "took advantage from the fact, quoting the very positive review at its forum pages too".
I have tried, but cannot find it!
We will forget about the imaginary Gamespot review as it seems it has been removed mysteriously (the CIA or the Martians probably )

Jeez, like if Gamespot used to review "hardcore" wargames every day...

Yes indeed having troubles me too to get the subject!
I was expected it was legitimate thing to talk about games, even games troubles, and reviewing criteria!
Arsan, according to AGEod, philosophy prefers to manage things in term of personal offence.
I'm used with it, having spent many monts at AGEod forum pages, but I'm getting a bit bored with that........
