Only if you get a magazine explosion. About 7 or 8 hits will give them 99 sys damage but you cannot get enough flotation damage to actually sink them.

heenanc: 800kg AP in the magazine blew up Repulse sitting in Singapure with 99 sys dmg in my game.
As for other ships, i think you need flotation to get high enough to sink the ship in harbor with 99 sys dmg. And this goes better with torps.

It is matter of some experience checks i think. You can see Kates carrying torpedos or 800kg AP bombs on port attack. But there is no way to be sure what your plane crews put on them actually until you see those things dropped against the enemy

In one of my current games I sunk POW with a 800kg bomb at Singapore.  That and 10 torpedoes

When Kates do a port attack there is a die roll on whether they load up with 800 kg bombs or torps.  Experience does play a role on the roll.  You can sink BB's in port since the hits will create fire as well as system damage so the fires may create the 100th point of sys damage to sink the ship.  A lot of the sinking probability also has to do with the port size and any repair yards.  More primitive ports will give you a better chance of sinking the Allied BB.  It's much easier to sink cruisers in port since the 800 kb AP bombs are essentially jury rigged 16 inch shells with fins so the penetration values are very high.

Allied Damage control is such that you probably can not get enough hits on a BB to produce enough flotation damage to cause it to sink in port (using 800 kg AP).  You can, however produce enough system damage to make his BB virtually useless.  No joy on the Victory Points though.

Another point.  Beyond four hexes, your Kates will never load Torpedoes... but then again, they wouldn't carry 800 gk AP bombs either, so you are probably close enough.

If there is only one BB in the port, the chances aren't that bad to sink it with a large strike or two. Most planes will attack this BB, thus it will be in deep trouble, even if no torpedoes are used. If the port contains a large fleet, you will probably not sink BBs, because the damage is spread out. On the other hand, 5 BBs crippled is a larger blow to the enemy than 1 BB sunk...

You can make them useless but only for a certain amount of time I think, in one of my PBEM's I managed to repair a BB from 90 to about 20 in one of the big yards on the west coast from Jan 42 to Aug 42. Don't know if I was just really luck or this is average.

That was the west coast though and there aren't any yards like that in India. It must take time to get a BB from India to the West coast all the way round the back of Aussie land when it can only move 1 hex a turn. Don't know whether it would be worth it.

Quickest BB repair times?

[EDIT] Thinking if you were in the situation you could just send the BB back when Winston comes a calling

Whit torpedos is only one problem, ther is some roll (or % chance, not quite sure) to be used by planes when attacking port. My expierienc showing that is almost imposible to sink BB in port only whit use of AP Bomb's. At WWII in Leningrand most capital ships was only damaged by bombs, after soviets pulled back germans most of them in short time was operating and supporting land troops.

Those ships have to have their sys damage below 50 or it will not allow you to withdraw it.

BB repairs depends on the size of the port (9 or 10 is best), number of other ships in port AND anchored at that point that may take up Repair Points, size of the Repair Shipyard, number of ARs in port, Naval HQ, and ever bodied favorite....die rolls.
