when were t-34s first encountered by the Germans on East front? Have been reading Clark's Barbarossa and he mentions near Moscow December '41 but were they at Kiev?

In fact in late 1940's there has been 115 T-34 manufactured and in 1941 June, 1225 has been available for battle, the first encounter for German was 6/22/1941 at Grodno, (near Belrussia)
which really suprised the Germans...

Hi, Army Group South first encoutered T-34's (in a large scale Soviet attack) on June 25 1941
The Panzer Group was severly mauled by a large Soviet counter attack. One of the many reasons AGC turn south to destroy the Kiev pocket was the fear of another large scale Soviet tank attack on the flank of the drive on Moscow.

Raseinyai, Lithuania I think also here was Russian attack where they lost almost 200 tanks. on 23-24 June (I fixate on the June 25-26 attacks in my Russophilia since in that attack they won)
