Congradulations on publishing GGWBS, it is the best wargame I've played in a long time and I have been playing them for a long time: started with the original AH Gettysburg in 1959. I have been playing board and computer wargames continously since. Well, maybe not continously I have worked and raised kids, but pretty regularly.

For six weeks, I've been playing with another member of this forum by PBEM. We exchange files at least once a day so there has been a good deal of exchanging. We are on our third game now; neither of the first two went beyond April 62. The first was terminated because he was killing me brutally and took pity. All file exchanges were flawless. But in the second game, he noticed that FOW had stopped working when he opened the CAS end file I sent him. I think its was still 61 but I didn't think to preserve the file for examination.
We always use FOW and, up to that point, hadn't experienced any problems with it. On checking the file I'd sent, FOW was definitely gone; in all earlier turns, it was present. Upon hitting the "o" button in that file, the Options Screen displayed red checks in the FOW boxes. I tried everything I could think of to restore the options setting, like making sure that FOW had black checks on the options screen before I loaded guilty PBEM file. Nothing worked. We decided to start a third game because of the disadvantage suffered by the South--here me--when the Union enjoys total intelligence of Southern deployment.
Until yesterday everything went fine but upon receipt of his March 62 move, FOW disappeared when I employed the replay function. I hit the "r" key and the replay control window popped up as did everything on the northern map. When I stopped replay, FOW came back on and has remained on since. I haven't tried replay again as the game is still proceeding. Hitting the "e" key to recall text files does not elicit the same response.
Has anybody else reported this to guys? I am not computer literate--in fact I'm hardly literate at all-- and have no idea why this FOW weirdness is happening. Thanks for your time and a GREAT game

Haven't seen a report like this before. Since you know when FOW disappeared, do yuo have a save file right before and right after that happened? If not, can you e-mail your latest PBEM save files to me at erikr@matrixgames.com please?

Regards,

- Erik

George,
I have had some dissimilar problems crop up in connection with my many saved game files. I was suggested that I removed the old game saved files. I did this and the then immediate problem was resolved after I uninstalled/reinstalled the game.

Thanks Treefrog,

I'll try that next game. since the first posting another FOW bug appeared in a PBEM game. If I hit replay, FOW would disappear during the replay. Once I resumed playuing, FOW came back on. Right now my oppent and I just don't use replay which is drag.

Treefrog,
I have noticed that you are extremely conversant with this game and Darren tells me you are a formidible player. I wondered if you 'd be willing to discuss two design issues, which are related, that has caused me some concern: the "resignation" for illness and moratality ratins for leaders. Obviously I have particular leaders foremost in mind, but think the defects of these rules are general. And while the issue isn't techincally on the table during the test period for the current patch, prehaps some feedback on these issues might casue the folks at 2by3 and Matrix to give them a second look. Thanks.
