Checking the Expected Reinforcements I found out that I'm going to be losing some of my combat troops in turn 93:

It looks like Curt has an offensive planned in the extreme south of the front lines. Look at all the hardware lined up there.

I realize it's still early in '42 and everything but it just seems to me that the Soviet air superiority is growing by leaps and bounds. Pretty soon I'll have to pull all my air assets back to Berlin so they can play a roll late in the war.

Here's a section of the front lines near Leningrad early in turn 94. I may have to wait until winter of '42 before I can do anything about this one Soviet dude in the flooded marsh hex. I can't attack him until I'm able to move into the hex.

Here's an abbreviated list of the Axis losses so far. I don't remember ever having that many Heavy Rifle Squads assigned.

Leningrad fell in turn 94 finally, but Curt might take it back in his turn. Probably not.

EDIT: He did take it back in his turn. But I'm going to grab it again and maybe hold it this time.

Lenningrad's toast.  I took it back but it won't hold.  Once Larry took Novaya Ladoga the supply point was removed from Lenningrad (is that historical?).
Without a supply source it was doomed, and only a matter of a few turns before Larry would bore his way in.  The 120 shock bonus for Case Blau was the final straw.  I thought I had a fortress, but the city fell like a rotton apple.

Up until this point I had been satisfied with the course of the game.  Now, a clerical oversight, a late mud season, and a timely offensive have all combined to put Larry back in the driver's seat.  I had a good plan mapped out for 1942.  Now it's back to the drawing board.

Here's the moves minimovie from turns 91 through 95 showing the collapse of the Soviet Leningrad defense. I had to capture it twice but that just gave my guys more practice.

Here's what the front lines look like now that the Soviets are largely gone from Leningrad. There's still that one guy that's sitting on a flooded marsh hex but he'll be gone come winter.

Here's what the Murmansk area looks like. I'm going to have to send some reinforcements to this area before it collapses since the Finns are hard pressed to hold the line(s) here.

I can't seem to make any progress in the Sevastapol area. Curt has sent enough troops there to be able to present fresh ones each turn so I can't wear them down enough to advance. It's a war of attrition here.

I thought initially that I might as well try to sweep into the Moscow area from the north since I have a lot of troops already in the Leningrad area to try it. Curt has shipped a lot of troops there to thwart my plans though, it might not work as well as something else might. I'd have to ship by rail all those troops to some other area to try something else and I dont' think I would have the strategic surprise trying to do that. Maybe I should put on some kind of phantom offensive to draw all his troops to another area first and THEN try to sweep south from Leningrad.

It looks like I lost about 1200 squads taking Leningrad but in the long run it will be worth it I'm hoping.

Once he gets down to nothing due to lack of supplies, you can hit him with an artillery attack and he might disappear.

Hey......good idea. I've also considered an aircraft attack.

Better not. He's part of a UN peacekeeping force to make sure the Germans provide humane treatment to the citizens of Leningrad. He just got a little lost in that swamp.

I am in the middle of a good push to the east from the Leningrad area and have made some progress this turn. 7 Combat rounds has given me some of the hexes the Soviets used to have and next turn, unless Curt can pull the rabbit outta his hat, I'm going to make some more progress. Maybe. Anyway, here is a view of the front lines in that area.

I'm going to have another problem with Soviet units in a flooded marsh hex. This time it's a rather large division and might take a few turns to wear down enough to kill it with arty.

Here's the front lines at the end of turn 98. There's a Soviet destroyer, just one destroyer, near Leningrad and I don't know whether or not to go to the trouble to sink it or not.
