Have version 4.3b and just tried to start a PBEM game. After receiving the turn by email and setting my password the game was returned ok. On receipt of the game file back and trying to load save file after the first players turn I get the message' security violation..player 2 installation corrupted'. I take it we have done something wrong. Can anybody help?

Hi Garry! One of you is playing with a different version of SPWaW or OOBS. Both players MUST have the same version of SPWaW and the same OOBS version. You can download all the latest OOBS 9-30-00 at my web site. Sounds like your partner got a different version of SPWaW. This is so for PBEM and ONLINE play. Hope this points you in the right dirrection. Tankhead ------------------ Rick Cloutier rcclout@telusplanet.net Coordinator: Tankhead's SPWAW Resources http://tankhead.home.icq.com

i'm no expert but security violation could be an indication that the file was reloaded at some point. Since its at the beginning of the game perhaps one of the players made their buys/deployment then decided they wanted to change so reloaded the turn. I have no idea but its important to make sure the turn is loaded only once. Best to try again and see what happens.. also you can run a couple test PBEM games on your system to make sure u have the procedure down. Its an effective system but very exact when doing ur turns. hope this helps

I've been checking into pbem using encrypted files. Some things that seem to enter into this difficulty in addition to other things mentioned above. 1. Some difference in the programs - perhaps due to an error made in installing upgrades. 2. Copying or otherwise manipulating the game files. 3. Taking files from one system to another for playing on a different computer. 4. Players with more than one version of the game will find that it is very easy to unzip a gamefile into the wrong folder. Of course, the infrequent corruption of files over telephone wires and the even more infrequent corruption of files by the file compression utility.

We are playing a scenario and we were both able to install passwords and after i had received the completed first turn I am unable to enter the game and come up with the error described. It doesnt even come up with the screen to enter my password so I can play my turn.

What slot are you using. I did a test PBEM game and received an error message when i saved the game in slot#11. I tried again in slot#3 and everything worked OK. I even tried loading up a previous turn but recieved a fail to load error, not a security violation error. Page 19 from the manual gives this important piece of information: Secure PBEM games save automatically, but the security can take a few extra seconds for Windows to write to the disk. So when playing a secure game, wait a few seconds after ending your turn before exiting the game or the encrypted file may not save. your game is unplayable as it is so the only option is to startup a new one. Again, the security violation error (at least in previous versions) indicated a turn may have been reloaded. Let your opponent know u received an error and try it again. GL

I'm not sure, but it can just be that your opponent quit the game too early after saving. It takes some time, and if you go on too early the file might be corrupted. Is the file size comparable with others you got? Compare OOB's.. did any of you do a change to it? Try to email OOB files between you to make sure they match. Since you can check the number of times the file has been loaded within the game, i don't believe reloading a turn would corrupt it. I've been forced to reload a previously played turn, and it worked nicely.

When my opponent runs the turn from his end he is asked for my password so i dont think anything is wrong in saving, when i send file to him for a new game he has same problem as me. Could it be caused by insufficent RAM..I am only using 32MG instead the recommended 64MG
