Maybe there is a discussion about this, and I just missed it. Sorry if that's the case.

I am having difficulty in reading terrain. I move units into woods on the map and they get creamed, only to find out that just because they are in the woods doesn not mean that is good cover.

My question is this, how do some of you determine where to move your guys when evaluating a battlefield. You can include things such as fields of fire, or whatever helps you in managaing terrain to your advantage in the defense or offense.

Thanks for the help.

Hit F8 to bring up "Options". Set "Soldier outline display" to "Show cover". See if that makes a difference.

Terrain. It means everything, doesn't it?

Started a new campaign again as German. And in the first 3-5 operations, my Pz will definitely be below par against the KVs. So terrain has been very important for me to advance my forces. I usually spend the first 5-10 minutes in deployment, pondering over siting of units and such. I can't secure and move through open terrain that well, at least not until, I've destroyed or eliminated the Russian armour.

And interestingly, I have advanced past maps when I have pushed enough forces through the Russian flank, even though I had yet to destroy that monster KV-2. It seems the AI knows when it has been turned. The KV-2, in early war, is only good for a fight up front, even a PZ-35(t) or 38(t) on the flank gives it enough creeps for the unit to bug out.
