Just a quick question - is using the "peak" marker has any impact on the defence or movement rate of the units, or is it just eye candy?

I'm making a scenario that could use an icon to signify certain event-related areas in a scenario I'm designing, but I wanted to make sure it won't effect combat/movement.

It affects spotting or recon. Units on peaks can see farther.

I can testify from game and design experience that placing a unit on a triangle “peak” hex does increase the radius in which enemy units can be spotted. The enhanced reconnaissance ability seems to be more pronounced in scenarios with low reconnaissance settings.

Somewhere the manual also states that artillery units near peak hexes get a certain bonus.. what this 'near' has to be is nowhere discribed, though.

OK, that is actually not bad news. I'm working on a small scale (1 hex = 500m) Berlin 1945 scenario and now I'm thinking of using "peak on fortification" to simulate Berlin's flak towers.
