Thanks for the screenshots!

Lovely raid also

Go for Ceylon. Place some Bettys on naval search + gauntlet of subs. Create a chokepoint so that no ship enters or leave Indian ocean.

Do you have any idea about the numbers of ships inside Karachi port? Raiding harbour combined with multiple land based fighter sweeps (to neutralize the possible RAF danger) would be nice to bag some easy points.

Bombing Karachi could be very dangerous for the air crews.  With the mass of reinforcements, including AA & BF, SEAC must have received in the two-three months (or is it more already ?), you could expect a blood bath.

Castor, I meant CVs as escorts on the most important convoys, at least for the last leg.  And CVEs to hunt your subs, as the latter proved very useful eyes.  I was not clear, sorry.

Hmm true true. But one or two fast battlecruiser+cruiser task force could do the trick (with heavy float plane reconing trick). Don't recall how severe were RN losses during the Indian campaign and what portion of the fleet is currently situated in Karachi. It's never too bad to sink some 10-15 merchant ships + whatever you can find in port.

Castor troy, can you post the current ship losses?

There are only a couple of ships at Karachi, Miller usually moves them out quickly as soon as they arrive. There are enough enemy aircraft that attacking it isnīt really worth it, I mean, my losses wouldnīt worth it. Would need to transfer 500 fighters/bombers into the Karachi area and thatīs not possible at the moment.

But Ceylon stays on my list, but time is running out for the Japanese Empire, weīre nearly entering 43!

youīre correct, bombing Karachi below 26.000ft isnīt possible in Nikmod, you would wreck hundreds of bombers in a couple of turns.

The biggest problem for Miller will be the number of CVs available at the moment, guess he used all of his carriers for his offensive operations. And everything below 250 aircraft would be in real danger of being sunk while doing not enough damage.

There was no RN loss other than 4!!! PT boats during my attack on India! Miller immediately withdrew his ships. The port is empty every couple of days so moving Kongo class BBs up to India wouldnīt even be worth the fuel. And my cruisers arenīt 1000lb bomb prove so all in all itīs too much risk for no or not much to gain.

If I donīt forget to take the screens next turn I will post the most important ship losses.

looks like the dice rolls went very well for the Chinese. Not that Iīm surprised that they get a good adjusted av as they are sitting behind level 9 forts, but the losses on my side are rather amazing... And hey, we didnīt even knock down a fort level with 300 combat engineers in the hex. Sian will fall, and it wonīt take long...

itīs ridicoulos. Iīm defending in a wooden hex and my av gets adjusted down... no, my troops are not out of supply. Once again we take twice the losses than the attacker... I donīt get it... those divisions I have there are all 90+ experienced, something the Allied divs surely arenīt...

Ever tried sending BC/CA to bomb Karachi ? The result is the same as at Bataan, Manilla, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pearl Harbor, etc :.
And with the number of LB, TB, FB, etc, that have arrived in the meantime...

Aircraft Attacking:

3 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 10000 feet

As an Allied player you hate Betties and Nells but especially in Nikmod I would love to swap them out to B-17s and B-24s... 2 B-17 lost at the end of the day for two small AKs sunk...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Kendari at 33,71

Japanese ground losses:
7190 casualties reported
Guns lost 189
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
1405 casualties reported
Guns lost 7

what really pisses me off is that this is already the second attack that isnīt able to knock down a fort level! Am I totally nuts? In this attack there were over 400 combat engineers involved... ridicoulos... but Iīm still confident that the base will fall soon... why? Because Iīve got 7500 assault points that I can rotate in and out and I wonder how long it will take until there is no supply left for the defender. But wait! Even without a single bullet, a division can still kill you... with bajanettes or whatever the designers thought they would use. 0 supply still means 25% of the assault value, so with 9 forts itīs nearly like they would have 100% supply. Once again, one of those wonderful design desitions. Use 10.000 troops in the maginot line and even with out a single MG bullett or grenade you can still wreck an attacker! lol

Allied ship losses. As you can see, with more or less carefull strategies so far, Miller didnīt lose many high value ships.

Also our losses are far from severe. How we lost Hyuga is still something that pisses me off though, I just should have been more carefully. But thatīs it.

Only two CVs ?  I thought it was more.  Bad memory.  You didn't lose any, did you ?

BTW, O19 & O20 are the minelaying subs.  O21 is a regular sub.  But one with working torpedoes...

thx for the info.

Unfortunately only two CVs were sunk, Miller was quite lucky when it came down to his CV losses. IIRC then Lexington was hit by three torps and was 1000 miles away from Pearl Harbour but was pumped out at some level 3 port or so. Then the four British CVs, 300 high exp Betty/Nell bombers scored only a couple of 800kg AP bomb hits that obviously didnīt do much damage, one or two torp hits didnīt help either. On the way South to Perth the heavily damaged Indomitable then was missed by torps from a sub. So, in the end there are only the two sinkings that count.

I didnīt lose any carriers, the enemy scored some bombs on my CVEs but all are safe and will be operational within the next couple of weeks.

Yes, Allied Damage Control is great.  I noticed that recently, when I started playing some games as Japan against the AI.
Did you accelerate the building of the late-war CVs ?

two CVs are accellerated, they will arrive within the next 8 months. Taiho should arrive within late 43 too.

That would potentially a monster of a carrier battle.  This would be 7 big and four medium carriers on your side, against approximately the same number of fleet CVs and a few more mediums and CVLs.

I can field over 900 carrier based ac in 10 months or so if no CV is lost but due to our hr they canīt be in the same hex.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 11/19/42

TF 25 encounters mine field at Maumere (28,73)

Japanese Ships
AP Kiyozumi Maru, Mine hits 1, on fire

A medium sized AP hits a Type 93 mine at a friendly port. Now that is a rare occassion! While Japanese Type 4 and Type 93 mines are only enough to scratch some paint on an Allied AK, itīs enough to put this Japanese AP into sinking condition... flt is at 54 and there are 17 fires, I expect the ship to sink...

I donīt know where all my supply has gone in two turns but the base has 0 supply now! Two days ago the base had 7.000+ supplies and all my units were fully supplied. Now my units are 50% supplied and no supply is at the base left... another nice feature... I would call it a bug as thereīs no reason why all the supply should suddenly vanish...

the next deliberate attack, perhaps all my supply was given to the Allied attacker... the first 1:1 attack, we still get only a sh*tty adjusted av even that we defend in a wooden hex. At least this time the Allied suffered slightly more casualties than we did, but with two bombardments we will have lost 1.500 troops more again... the fact that some 15.000 supplies vanished in one turn (7.000 at the base and 8.000 within my troops) will be the reason why I will lose this base... great! Really... great!

Next Allied target are the Fidjis, half a dozen TFs are moving in. Wonīt be much of a problem to take the bases and I wonīt do anything, itīs not worth it.

thatīs no problem when you know that thereīs not much resistance. At least I guess he should know that all those island far out arenīt really defended. Why should I... But he will reach a point where it will be painful for him. And instead of moving out of Timor, Iīm happy that he disperses his troops down there...

One of the bombardment TFs of course. God damn, how does this work now? Of course we lose another DD again... Hey, those PTs are so useless... ho ho ho, Iīm Santa Clause... how many threads Iīve been involved when people told me that it takes 50 PTs to sink one DD when Iīve experienced the complete opposite and all the AARs Iīve read show the same thing that happens to me...

Miller flew in more torpedo bombers. Doesnīt matter, the DD only moved one hex after being hit by the PTs so it was dead already...

so, today we killed half a dozen PTs, a dozen ac (out of 200+) and two MSW for the loss of one DD. Points wise a victory for us but everyone knows how borked the victory points are anyway in the game.

Was there something positive this turn? Yes! We didnīt hit a mine!

I donīt know in which phase I am at the moment, I guess weīve entered the "nothing works for the Japanse anymore phase". Third attack, third time we have hundreds of combat engineers in the hex and the third time we were not able to reduce a fort level. Stupid game...

mmm, the defender has been cut off for months, bombed for the same time (my bombers stopped flying, must be part of the "nothing works anymore phase") and over a dozen art units donīt do 10% of the damage the 5 Allied art units (that are supplied over 120 miles of trails) do at Dili.

the enemy is going in at Nandi, this was somewhat expected. Thereīs only one IJN base force with CD guns on the Fidjis and it is base at: Nandi unfortunately it does no damage even though there was no pre invasion bombardment. This is highly careless IMO but Miller gets away with it. What if I would have put a dedicated CD unit here? Oh well...

this is the afternoon phase when Lauternīs bombers are coming in. Even though that the Warhawks are on escort we donīt achieve more than a 2:1... if you think we would bounce them then all I can say: dream on, the bounce is an Allied feature, if itīs happening for the Japanese side, well then it must be a bug...

we did get a shot at the bombers but didnīt achieve much...

In the end we achieve a 3:1 in ac lost today but we have also lost 13 pilots, which makes it again a 75% loss rate over my own base. Please NOTE the amazing number of Allied 4Es lost... laughable Nikmod result... I was hoping to see at least half a dozen lost but what should I say about 2... remember, 80+ were damaged...

believe it or not, Miller landed no less than 5!!!! divisions at Nandi!!! What is he doing? Any explanation for this? Iīm a fan of using brute force but 5 divisions? lol, thatīs a good way to wreck his troops, those five divisions are down to only 40% of their combat strenght just from landing at Noumea and now at Nandi. Iīm not sure why he uses 5 divisions for something two bgds would easily achieve but it serves me well. Those divs will need probably 2 months of rest now.

another deliberate attack at Dili and the first time our adjusted av gets adjusted up and the Allied one gets adjusted down. Am also happy about the losses this time... Miller asked me again if Iīm going to invade Lautern to cut off his troops at Dili because Iīve used a dozen cruisers yesterday and when I look at the units at Lautern then this becomes more and more an option it seems. After weeks of recon (with Dinah IIs), Lautern shows only 38.000 troops and as recon normally multiplies the enemy troops by 1.5-2 I expect not more than 20-25.000 troops at the base. I canīt remember how many divisions landed at Lautern but I guess there were 6, so this means only 1 would defend the place with a couple of base forces. Hmmm.... landing 6 or 7 divisions could do the trick quite fast... Iīm thinking about it...

the enemy TFs are still unloading the whole day, looks like thereīs one TF for each division. Well, itīs surely not an abuse of a hr but thereīs also no need to use 5 TFs to unload 5 TFs when I moved 250.000 troops on three TFs to India...

Hmmm, I don't know about you, but I'm starting to think I shouldn't have started my game with a mod that has nikmod style A2A adjustments. I mean seriously, ops losses=ridiculous, flak=insane, Allied bombers=absurd.

I think if this is the way the design team sets up AE I want to start playing as Allied a lot more!

the changes that were done were going into the right direction, especially the Uber cap issue. In some cases, like endurance of Allied 4Es and Allied flak it has gone too far. If you donīt have to put Cap over your bases because you can rely on the flak of a couple of base forces than I donīt know... IJN fighters vs US bombers looks good when they meet in the air IMO but overall Allied bombers are just too dominating when they are unescorted. Iīm not saying Allied airforce should be dominating by 43, but not unescorted bombers vs bases with 300 Japanese fighters...

I doubt that AE has such radical changes when it goes to undestructable Allied bombers. At least I hope so. Unescorted raids shouldnīt be a cake walk against bases with hundreds of fighters IMO.

Agreed on the uber-cap issue, that was always a problem, although I would sometimes wish the cap was maybe a little bit better. I had 17 out of 18 hudsons break through 25 zeros on cap. I would surely think this would be a slaughter, and I certainly think in reality it would be. What seems to stop the allies is the morale hit more than losses.

yeah, the ONLY thing is the morale that stops them. But that doesnīt happen if they come in with escorts as then the fight vs. the escorts takes long enough that the bomber get through mostly unharmed anyway. Itīs a mess...
