I replayed this old favourite of mine in 394. The Israeli mission is to execute attacks on a number of WMD/Missile production plants spread all over Iran. The strike was executed by about 20 F15 Eagles armed with smart bombs, iron boms and Mavericks. They were supported by recce planes and Hercules tankers. Right at the beginning Haifa was hit by nemerous Hezbollah SSMs, this once again reinforced the need for the deep strike on Iranian missile production. My artillery and helicopter gunships managed to find some of the missile launchers in Southern Lebanon, but I lost an artillary unit and a farm to later missile attacks. I decided to split my deep strike-force, moved half North, planning to ingress over the Turkish-Syrian border into Northern-Iran. The other half cut accross Jordania into Saudi-Ariabia, planning to fly over Kuwait and the Persian Gulf into Southern-Iran. I avoided Iraq as the US occupation force had Sentries, Patriots and F15s and was reputed to be hostile. Some of the planes were given top-ups from Hercules tankers which accompanied the strike force some way into hostile territory. I found the IFR worked only part of the time, and had to be carried out plane by plane and often several attempts at joining planes were needed. Still, I did not have enough fuel to make the whole trip at vLow alt. The Southern group found themselves intercepted by Saudi F15s, which came in on burner and overflying Soudi-Arabia cost me three planes on ingress. It would be much worse on egress. The Saudi were obviously getting steers from a Sentry they had up and several ground radars. I shot down 3 Saudi F15s in self defense too. Once over the Persian Gulf they avaded patrolling Iranian F4s and split up to attack 3 targets. By popping up to vhigh alt just before attack they avoided most of the ground fire. All three targets were destroyed and the groups met up over the Persian Gulf for egress over Saudi-Arabia. The Northern group managed to stay hidded from Turkish F15s and proceeded over the Caspian Sea to their targets East of Teheran. Here too three targets and an SA11-site were engaged and destroyed; but a I-Hawk SAM site near Teheran fired off many missiles and downed three of the attackers. Some planes returned via Turkey and again avaded patrolling F16s. The remaining 5 F15s from the Northern group which had gone deepest into Iran decided to also egress over Saudi-Arabia and fought their way through intercepting Tigers and F4 Phantoms to the Persian Gulf. Egress over Saudi Arabia was a nightmare. The defenders were alert! I decided to fly the egress low and with radar off. However the Sentry could obviously direct more F15s and once again I started losing planes. Once my force was over the Red Sea, I had lost 13 of the F15 strike force, both Recce planes and one tanker on a spectacularly successfull mission. Iran had lost most WMD sites and 10 planes, Saudi had lost 5 and Turkey also 5 (I don't know to whom!) As far as I could tell 394 behaved nicely (except for the In-flight refueling troubles) and the scen (part of the 2nd Lebanese War Battleset)
