I chose to live vicariously through the 'horns in bball. My alma mater (University of Dallas) once lost 111 games in a row. Sports Illustrated went so far as to call our team "unsurpassed". In what was the question.

True, they are good at baseball. The program had been shut down before I attended and restarted after I graduated. The rumor was that the program had been cancelled because it represented an unacceptable diversion from scholastics (i.e. they had gotten good). We only had soccer and bball when I was there. Still it was good to mock the bball guys, at least we were able to find someone to beat.

Not without a healthy Lawson.  If he is able to play effectively by next week, UNC will be the team to beat.

I agree, someone from the big East, after a season in that conference, the NCAA should look easy!

Yeah, three #1 seeds from a single conf. is a remarkable statement on the strength of the Big East.  But I'm still going with UNC - not just because I'm a fan.  Ty Lawson will almost certainly play.  He was going to red shirt, but they brought him in for the Duke game a week or so ago.  Plus, even though he has another year left (he's a junior), playing him against Duke means he's likely to go pro (so in other words, the red shirt would've been wasted) - and since they played him last week, they're sure to play him in the tourney if at all possible.  He might play a few minutes on Saturday, just to loosen up.  But I'm pretty sure they're holding him back until they need him.  That's my logic anyway....  So much depends upon a toe!

Big 12 looked impressive yesterday. Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma all looked good in their wins. now lets just see if texas or a&m will actualy string 2 good games together. those two teams have top 15 talent but are the most inconsistent teams ever.

Even if Texas plays another good game, they will have a hard time beating a Duke team that is playing very well right now.

Honestly, I think my Terps have a better chance against Memphis tomorrow.  I've picked Memphis to lose in the championship game, but they didn't play well at all yesterday.  They had a particularly hard time against the zone defense, which Maryland has been using quite effectively lately.

16 more games today!

Yesterday I mentioned that there aren't any teams from Georgia in the tournament this year, so I was pulling for our neighbors, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  So what if the Mocs lost by a mere 50 or 60 points?  Now who do we pull for? (Florida State is disqualified by reason of being a major school and therefore too annoying to pull for)

Dan, we're Georgia Bulldogs... we're not supposed to care about basketball. Okay, so what if we had one of the greatest players of the day playing on our team when you and I were students... basketball is just something to pass the time while waiting for football season, right?

You're right, of course. But every now and then Georgia comes up with an athletic team that manages to do pretty well.

Speaking of 'Nique, the most amazing thing was the year AFTER he left. Should've been a down year, right? Instead, Dawgs go to the Final Four, riding the backs of players like Terry Fair and _______Fleming (and was Lavon Mercer on that team?)

Vern Fleming.

Naw... Lavon Mercer was a senior during Nique's freshman year. THAT team was probably Georgia's best ever... Lavon Mercer, Dominique Wilkins, Terry Fair, Walter Daniels and Eric Marbury (hold your breath when he has the ball!). If 'Nique hadn't received knee injuries in both games agaisnt 'Bama that year, the team would have gone a long ways.

I once saw Eric Marbury go in for a layup against a mammoth Kentucky center who swatted the ball all the way down the court and into the stands.  Georgia had the lead late in the game, but that was the beginning of the game slipping away.  Marbury dismayed everyone whenever he had the ball.

You knew when SkyDawg (Eric Marbury) got the ball that something spectacular was going to happen... you just didn't know which team would be the beneficiary!

It sounds like you were one of the few other real basketball fans on campus in those years... I still have my "Durham's Dawgs Do It With Round Balls" sweatshirt around here somewhere...
