Spring 41 Germany

Our scientists have succesfully come up with the right measures for those new depth charges employed by the brittish bucaneers , our uboats will be more deadly next turn.
Meanwhile the Wehrmacht keeps driving south to erase a possible threat from Greece, it's fleet bombed in port before it could run away and join the RN.
Norway was peacefully ocupied to prevent a Brittish invasion...
Two transports were damaged in the Atlantic.

I am sorry to post out of turn, but I am going on holiday from the 22 through 31 and will be MIA. In the interest of keeping everything moving, herewith the news from the Russian front:

Stalin was impressed by the Imperialist defence of the Med. However, he now views the shifting forces with a measure of alarm. Cables are received from Turkey, asking for Soviet support in the eventuality of a German attack on the Bosporous.....

The loss of Norway is indeed a setback, now the Mursmank route will be harder to intercept, and the ruskies need supplies badly. Our BB was damaged in exchange for a LF, less than 50% chance but got hit

Barbarossa has begun even though our armies were not fully in position, waiting another turn would only have made things worse, cassualties have not been very high, a german inf and fighter damaged and two militia destroyed, the Baltic States, E. Poland, Belorussia, Kiev and Odessa taken.

In the Atlantic two TF destroyed, thanks to our new intelligent torpedoes , one TF was carrying 2 supplies that now are at the button of the ocean.

OK. Back from a 12 hour flight. Am not too jet-lagged, I hope.....

Faced with the consequences of Germany perfidity, Stalin suffers a crisis of confidence; virtually no word is heard from the Kremlin. In the absence of any direction from the top, local generals take the initiative and order troops to fall back from Kharkhov and Sevastopol, along with whatever production they can salvage. Leningrad is fortified somewhat, but not too much. Germany can take her if she tries, but this will buy Mother Russia some precious months. Throughout USSR, milita are conscripted to provide fodder for the more experienced troops. The Russian navy damages a light fleet and severs supply lines to Sweden and Finland for the time being. In the only other offensive move, a squadron of tactical bombers is damaged in Eastern Poland. (my glee was lessened somewhat when I remembered we are playing 1.02 - strat bombers can still create CAM)

China does.... What does China do?

Strategic observation - RJH has concentrated armour in Belarus. This allows him to support major offensives against Kharkov and Leningrad, while also threatening Moscow, Rostov, Stalingrad and Grozny. Ugh.

The sea lanes are attack but due to the lack of subs and surface ships not to much can be done, sunk two TF, the soviets lose two LF, an attack on Leningrad was cancelled due to the low chances to succes (1% ) and the high loses it would involve (>10), instead the industry in Leningrad was damaged aswell as a Resource Center in Baku.

With the Eastern Front stabilizing somewhat, Stalin comes out of reclusion. Those generals who advocated a strong frontline presence are tried as traitors; the more fortunate are allowed to live and work as lowly munitions workers. Still the territory most vulnerable to German pressure, Lenningrad is fortified somewhat. Noting that German armour is still only marginally superior (although much greater in number), the Stavka is hopeful that if an attack against Lenningrad is mounted, it will be somewhat costly for the huns.

In the East, Changsha falls, leaving China two (!) remaining troops in Sinkiang. These, however, cannot be relied upon to take up arms, as the newly declared Uighur government secedes from China and declares its neutrality.

GAME note: one cannot see the 27 or so (if I recall correctly) inf and artillery in Kiev. Russia did a bombing run on undefended airfields in rumania and managed to destroy a tac bomber!

Germany Winter 41

A disastrous air campaign over the caucasus supposed two HB damaged, I'm greatly missing the "a" hotkey for withdrawing planes without fighting implemented in v1.03 and onwards, also three german fighters were damaged over Stalingrad for only one soviet chances were 3 to 2 not 3 to 1 . All in all a disastrous LW turn.

The Wehrmacht withdraws from the Baltic States. Airfields in France were reinforced.

Turn sent to a511.

With Russian winter, the Soviets find a curious lack of targets.... A valiant (elite) strategic bomber squadron damages the remaining German heav bomber squadron -- a sitting duck on Rumanian air fields. Germany has now 5 fighter squadrons, two tac bombers and two CAGs. These are largely concentrated in Western France. Thanks to heavy British support via Murmansk, Russian industry can concentrate on tech upgrades and production. In no time, the Germans will realize the error of their aggression.

China is still neutered. I suppose I should get around to sending her some supply from Russia.....

What IS Japan up to?

Deutschland Sp42

The number of fighters in the UK was becoming to high and an attack was ordered, losses were high on both sides. Wolfpacks were ordered to hold fore until the US are at war, right now US WR is 30 to 35 and they declare war at 37, word from Japan is that they'll be ready in time to devaste the WA fleets in the Pacific.
In the east we retake Kharkov in order to launch the summer offensive and end this war...
Meanwhile a little information gathered from our spies would be most useful for our allies.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of the WA in support of their Soviet comrades, Russia is confident in her ability to handle any further German offensives. That said, Rostov is under pressure. Militia are sent to form a screen to prevent too many armour units from Belarus from joining an attack from Kharkov. Of course, these militia are 'dead men walking' but they are willing to sacrifice for the survival of the motherland..... In a major air engagement over Kharkov, Soviet fighters come off slightly better than the Luftwaffe, eliminating any German defensive screen in the region. The valiant Russian bomber unit takes out the lone transport flotilla in Rumania....

Of course, Churchill has his hands full with the seven major wolfpacks threatening her supply lines. Uncle Joe dedicates a memorial in Murmansk so that the sacrifice of the merchant marine will not be forgotten....

An attempt to take Rostov was cancelled due to the huge amount of soviet artillery , overall they have 45 arty units .
Instead the salient in Kursk was closed and some minor skirmishes in the north front. We have to regret the damaged of two arty's of our own.
U-boat campaign was again restricted this turn until the japs attack the US, we have been reported that allied ASW techonology has reached level 3, new improvements are on it's way for our subs

Hmm, yes...

I didn't want to be caught pants down in California once more, so I thought I'd make it costly for any Japs coming there. Obviously I didn't think of fortifying NW USA though - although I do the same nasty thing to the AI occasionally.
