WaW Revised Beta Error Reports

Please post anything you think might be an error in WaW Revised Beta here.

Before posting error reports, please check http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2093130 to see the status of existing known errors.

If you think you've found an error of any sort, it would be extremely helpful for you to include:
1. Exact version letter and date of download if possible.
2. Whether you were playing AI or not.
3. Any info on what the game conditions were. Date, player turn, when Eastern or Pacific Blitz played, who's at war with whom, winter or not, etc...
4. Anything else you can think of that might help trace the problem.

Thanks for your patience, for being a brave "early adopter" and for playing a game that hasn't been fully tested. Your comments are invaluable as I strive to continue making WaW an even better playing experience.

Hi. First let me say I really appreciate the revised WaW and look forward to actually play past End of '40...
A smaller thing: In the version "J" (my laptop says it is from 21st April) I found that the Italien Battleships and Subs enter the game via an event while the Italian cruiser are set up on the map badly out of supply. When Italy joins the war after the fall of Lille the cruisers need some turns to get into shape (in contrast to the battleships and subs). Is this intentional and should simulate the bad shape of the Italian cruisers or is this not intended?

My mistake CA not added to event & left in map.
Yes, they're all supposed to be VERY out of shape.
IT navy suffered from exceedingly little supply, which was controlled by Hitler, so they seldom left port. Their commanders were also very hesitant to engage British fleet, even though IT had very superior BB & SS. This caused low XP/Readiness level by not being out at sea much. So yes, they need to take awhile to get as strong as they can be or they could quickly overpower most any British fleet. THis also allows possibility of famous Raid on Taranto, where British fleet did very heavy damage to IT fleet.
Can't get everything right with the limits of our engine, but this is my stab at keeping accurate OOB, while making conditions somewhat life-like.

I'll change those CA's to the event next version.

And by the way, you started version J just hours before the newer version K was posted!

Remember, Hotfix 1.21 must be installed properly for game to work.
To know if 1.21 is installed properly, in the upper left corner of opening AT splash screen you should see the version number, which must read 1.21

Looks nice.
We restarted a game using version M and I think I found a bug (probably not game-breaking though): The Germans are actually able to research Kamikaze technology in turn 1. So I can just not research it but maybe it can be checked if other players can research this too and if some other adjustments are necessary....

I am getting the same error as coxville at step 42 of AI processing in version L. I can reproduce it consistently by starting scenario, GE,JA human, all others A+ no Canadian supply, in game options= start with history and no auto combat. Start scenario, hit end turn, wait for step 42 to roll around. Interestingly, I tried the same thing with K, and AI processing concludes at step 40, so maybe L has an infinite loop--it coninued to process past step 200, when I got bored. Same problem loading a saved position from L.

Thanks barerabbit for the details. They do help.
One more question- do you have L- fixed or L before fix?
May or may not make any difference.
And yes, it definitely sounds like an infinite loop.

Not sure why mine isn't doing the same.
Maybe it's in the settings.
I'll work on it.

I think it is not fixed, I noticed that the germans can build kamikazes if that is what got fixed. WaW_Revised_1L_Beta.pt2, 1,610,550. I will get the latest one from the scenario bank and test it if it is a different size.

just tried with L-fixed and all is now well. I guess I missed the post about the fix. The saved game file from unfixed L still breaks the AI. I will let you know if there are further problems after I replay turn 1

more edits. I have been messing with L-fixed all night and I still have the AI processing problem. If I just load the scenario, set ge and ja to human, start and then end turn, the AI always works. I have two intermediate turn 1 saves--aastart:some production set, and aa:new hqs and production reassignments-no moves except maybe the subs. If I load these saves and just end turn, I have gotten aastart to process successfully once in 6 attempts, aa has never processed successfully. If you want to play with the saves I will email them to you as your mileage may vary.

Have tried with new fixed version and am still getting a continual loop. Anyway off on holiday for two weeks so I am sure all will be well upon my return. Best of luck

another clue prehaps. I tried running it with german bonus, Japan Bonus and against AI++ for west, china and ussr. With canadian supply off it crashed and with supply on it didn't. I know I have been playing canadian supply off ( a great rule but I like to conquer the UK and keep the booty!).

I have been able to reproduce the error on my rig now. That's good.
The bad news is that it is not simply the Canadian supply with AI that's the problem.
It has to be how it is interacting with something else that's the problem, and I'm up to 140 events now and huge numbers of lines in some of them.
I continue to search.

15 Hours Later!!!

Well, I tried everything trying to find what's wrong here, including I actually reinvented the wheel in the process!
Finally got it. It was not exactly the Canadian supply event, but close.
A little while back, I had a comment about the accuracy of the Canada map, so I moved a few things in Canada to make it better.
Little did I realize!
At least 2 events referred to Montreal, whose former value is in the ocean now, so when those events (including Canada supply) tried to do something with Montreal, infinite loop.
That's why just comparing version K, which worked, to L, which didn't, didn't show any changes to the code (at that instance at least), but I had totally forgotten about Montreal moving.
But it's fixed now, though I need to go back and carefully look for any other references to Montreal, and do some other cleaning up fixes, and stuff before M will be ready.
