Does the "all new 60+ battles, operations and campaigns" include British and other Allied forces? CC5 wasn't CC5 without GJS.

If not, does anyone know if there are plans to convert GJS?

sigh, this is upsetting. I was hoping they would remake ABTF before this one.

Great news!

And what about the 64,000 dollar question? (you know which one)

You know it amazes me that the finest of the bunch (A Bridge Too Far) has been ignored in the remake of this series...totally baffling.

Of course I know others preferred the third iteration, fourth etc...but whenever I see this series mentioned, more often than not the ravings are with regard to ABTF...imo the best of the bunch.

Too bad...I'm sure they'll get round to it, but I'll keep my money close to my chest until then.

Mind you, I never played 4 and 5. 3 pissed me off so much and 2 was sooooooooooo excellent, I didn't bother with the other two...so maybe I'm missing something...but I would still have rather had a remake of ABTF before any others.

And don't anyone dare disagree with me!

I'm guessing it's because it would need substantially more work? You could get away with graphics being pretty much as-is with 3, 4 and 5, but there was actually quite a step up in that regard between 2 and 3, and despite other flaws being introduced significant enhancements to gameplay as well. It was the best one simply because the scenario best fitted the engine, and it was the only one where the campaign was really worth bothering with.

One after the other, stay tuned guys, rumors say Monties biggest mistake is about to be done again

As for 4 and 5. I personally found 5 very good. I loved 3, liked 4 (not that much actually), but 5 was great again.
TLD is just great, I totally dig the night battles stuff and battlefield illumination.

What pissed you off so much about CC3?

Tank heavy and troops were slaughtered. Maybe I didn't adapt to playing it the way it was designed. I found it very, very frustrating...and the east was never my fav theatre anyway. It was the demise of the series for me...I didn't by another one...but I played A Bridge Too Far for a very, very long time.

Frankly I didn't find the re-release much better either. It's still tank heavy (when I played it when I first bought it...I don't know what patches did).

Ohhh, 1, 2, 3, ABT, easy 1, 2, 3 . . . which one do I buy first

Having only played CC WaR I can only guess how interesting/frustrating, etc., the others are, and given my wife does all our bills, I probably should hold off for at least a FEW more weeks before I go buying another game.

Just since Jan I bought:
Ageod's WWI (initially very frustrating, but now it seems to be 97% fixed with the last patch)
Hired Guns (still haven't bothered to get my whoop arse new desktop with badass vid card running . . .)
Crown of Glory (amazingly good game!)
Tin Soldiers: Alexander (fun, and hard)
CC Wacht Am Rhein

. . .  MUST RESIST buying another game in so short a time span . . .

Maybe matrix can look at posting their games in brown paper bags and putting "Automotive repairs" on the credit card billing... that should work... certainly better than Matrix staff in long coats standing on street corners going "Pssttt wanna buy a game?"

The game has so many options it is possible to play the stock game with no tanks for most scenarios and very few for others.

The scenario editor is sooooooo easy to use you can elimitate all tanks totaly.

For CoI/CC3 don't forget the real infantry mods which severely limit armour availability.

I guess it's because the game didn't divide force types into tank/infantry/etc. but dumped everything into the battle force.

Personally, I played CCIV, CCV, CC3:VoT, WaR and CCMT and I liked CCMT the best.
CCIV, CCV and WaR somehow didn't really suck me in. WaR has very cool weapon sounds, etc. but I don't find the CCIV-CCV campaign system very appealing - when I played these games, I basically played it for a few days, because I didn't have any real reasons to conquer map after map.
I would prefer something much more personal - something that would place me in a role of a platoon commander or a company commander during a realistic dynamic campaign.

The point is that for all of the games you don't need mods.

The games have options and the scenario editor.

Ever since CC4 was released, in December 1999, the community has totally ignored the game options and the scenario editor and instead made "mods".

Woohoo!! CC5 was my favorite in terms of graphics and immersion, while CC2 was my favorite for the general game play/strategy type stuff.

It may be time to FINALLY return to my Close Combat addiction... especially with summer coming and my kids head off to the ex's....

I got burned big time on the Close Combat Modern Tactics. That two year old bug that has soldiers skidding on the dirt...hell with this re-release junk.

It's nice to see the bugs finally fixed in CCV,and I like all the new maps for WAR (something CCIV never got)but it was a huge dissapointment that they moved CCIV into CCV.They also totally ruined the strat map in WAR inmho.
I also feel the lack of any type of MMCCIII (Massive Multiplayer Close Combat III) or a 2on2 Head to Head is really killing the series.
Compound that with a $50 price tag I just dont see myself buying this one.

Maybe ABTF if it has real improvements outside of graphically which they have to do as CCII is very dated.

Does the MMCCIII support WAR?
Does CCMT have a WAR mod?

MMCCIII doesn't support multiple BG's... silly to think it would.

WaR already has a strat map.

Piper sent me a WaR mod for CCMT....  Just needs a little tidying up before it's made available.

You can already download the CCMT/WaR maps

WaR in CCMT? Sounds great! Thanks for allowing this!

BTW.
Does anyone know if the Senior Drill's Pacific Front mod is still alive?

What do you mean that they "moved CCIV into CCV"? Did they use the CCIV game engine on the CCV scenarios?

Also, are you comparing the strat map in WAR to the map in CCIV?

I haven't played CCV in a long time, but considering one of the new games.

Thanks

WAR (which is the CC4 re-release) was built on top of an improved CC5 not on top of the original CC4 code. This way the Battle of the Bulge game got Atomic's enhancements they made in going from CC4 to CC5 along with the Matrix enhancements.

WAR as the newest CC release is the best CC available right now. The Longest Day when it becomes available should have everything WAR had plus some more enhancements. If you really like CC then start with WAR and then get The Longest Day. If you are not sure about CC then the The Longest Day when available should be the best version....
