This is my first attempt at a pacific (or any sea) war game. I went through the tutorial and understand the basics fairly well, so I started my first game in the first scenario. I got my *** kicked. I have a lot to learn about this theater of war... but for this game maybe you guys can help me. I probably need a guide describing the play of one of the smaller scenarios, the why's mostly. How can I best learn to play this game in a rational way? Am I asking too much?

Start really small (the Coral sea scenario, for example). Also, set the AI to easy. If you're still struggling, shut off the Fog of War until you get the basics of the game down...

Also, once you have the controls set, PBEM -- You will learn so much more from playing against a person as opposed to the AI.

..go for the big campaign straight away. And conserve your forces! Play chicken with your CV's, and load supplies and troops lika a madman to Port Moresby, Luna, and Truk.

Learn the importance of your ground units. I have stumbled across units who is dedicated to Air-support, they must not be lost under no circumstances, take them to Port Moresby and Luna.

DO NOT get your transports sunk to much. You will suffer heavy later around oct 42 when your very large bases will gulp huge amount of resources.

And start a BIG infantry march in NZ torward North, it will take them many months to reach objectives, but then they do, you hopefully have large TF's to support them.

I have to agree with madflava13. Start with the 1st scenario - it is only 10 days and there are not so many units that you get lost. Make sure the fog of war is off and if you want, you can even set up the game so you can work both sides. The forum is a big help too. Once you get the game mechanics down pat then go back to your normal settings. Oh - and make sure you turn off "React to enemy" on your air combat TFs!

I would suggest reading the After Action Reports (AAR's). They have their own section in the forum.

Not only are they exciting reads, but you get to 'peer into the mind' of the player a little. Finding out not just what they did, but why and what they learned from it. Lots of good stuff in there!

Good luck!
