You probably know this but the allied intention was to have captured the entire strat by that time in the GC posted above.  It took them another 3 days to completely occupy that area.  So by VL and points count it's a Major victory but TOTAL victory would be satisfying the intended allied goal for the first day.  Looks like another 20 maps to go for that.

If that was me playing that GC I'd be exceedingly happy to be doing that well.

My aim was to reach the 1st day goals on the first day.

Haven't quite managed it but they're popping corks in Picadilly

Note; There are still 673 letters I have to write home.

That's a lot of sad moms.  On the upside you're well on your way to getting a toe hold in beyond the Atlantic Wall.

I'm struggling as the Commonwealth forces in Objective Caen, stuck at Pegasus, the AI wont budge an inch.

Dont get me started about Merville Battery either.   Mongrel of a fight going on there!

You can see I've abandoned Merville

I've left it to HMS Arethusa  to reduce it to rubble.

John Howard has failed to take Pegasus as well... he is managing to staop any german reinforcements from reaching the beaches though.

Ah yes of course, I forgot about that. Will rely on history as well. Time to pull the boys back then and regroup the BG for a more practical task.

Ooops

I forgot I took the Battery and destroyed all the guns.

I left an old man to wait to be taken to Blighty for the duration as I moved my Paras out to secure Pegasus

Pretty close to what my debrief looks like as well.  Except for the VL top left.  I usually find a 20mm Light AA gun somewhere around there, nasty fricken thing it is too if it spots you in the light of the flares. I usually send a team to secure that VL and take out the gun before it can engage my main assualting forces.

Andrew, your Allied forces took almost the entire map by June 7th? How did you pull that off?

Sorry to ask this so tactlessly, but are you that good or is the AI that bad?

I have not bought it yet, still on the fence. The reason I asked is that it seems like quite an overwhelming feat. I think versus even average competition, which I am not, that winning on the first day would be near impossible. I don't mean any disrespect, just trying to gauge the game.

My two cents, I'm also playing as the Allies at the line level. I'm into about the 11th or 12th battle and the AI is giving me all I can handle. I'm nowhere near Andrew's map progress. I played CCIII many years ago but don't claim to be a good CC player.

I suspect that Andrew is playing 1hr time limits. I play 15 min limits and end most battles with a 5-to-1 casualty advantage, but it's not possible to take a lot of ground in that time.

Theres five turns on day one. The German beach units can be disbanded very easily because they are so weak. It looks as if Schrecken bypassed six beach units, give or take a few. Once you eliminate the beach units, or get the exit vls, you are clear to move behind them. In many cases theres no German BGs behind the beach units so you can move freely with some of your bgs for the remaining four turns all the way to the west side of the map.

So when are you pansies actually going to play a human opponent?

Now I know where the Ai learned its tactics. All-out charge every game from the moment you press go.

My orders were to drive for the first days objectives... leave any bypassed opposition to be mopped up by following troops.
