It is really annoying to have your unit retreating after the ennemy has shot at them.
One can consider that green unit may stop when shot at, but that they retreat is absurd.
The worst thing that I saw was when my units were crawling on the beach to avoid MG fire. But one man was shot and this bring the squad to stand up and to zig zag back to the rear.
This is nice for target practice.

Yes, thats combat. Sometimes humans or simulated humans do the craziest things...

*edit* I like it that way. Most of the others certainly do as well

CC is the only game/wargame where I find myself yelling at my troops on the screen when something goes wrong....

If I was one of those spirits and had some fool like me telling me to charge a machinegun, I'd prolly run away too


I'm not sure how else to get off the beach though. I get my mortars to fro down smoke but it's not completely effective.

Back in my younger, cc3 days I'd get so angry w/ those guys I'd mortar im Unfortunately the engine won't allow me to fire direct toward my own troops, or I'd have machinegunned im

The better a team's morale, the more likely they are to keep going under fire. For best results:

1) Suppress the enemy shooter(s) with covering fire and/or block their line of sight with smoke.

2) Keep a command team with your advancing troops (hold down space bar to see the command radius for each team).

3) Use short (~40m or less) "Move Fast" orders when under fire.

I agree with the developers on this one.  During ww2 on the western front-sometimes officers and NCO's had to go from position to position firing their men's weapons.  Why!  To get them to fire(it gave their postion away)-As some american soldiers saw it-you fire, you get shot at.  So the "green troops" during this landing is correct, along with their moral level.

Yeah have heard many of the same things.  Quite a stressful situation that's easy to rationalize about from our safe situations.  Steve's the guy to listen to with recommendations on how to overcome this in the game.  Spot on.  He ought to know!

Yeah Yeah Here another example of aborted attack the last german is stuck against the bunker. From within the bunker a command team, an mg team and a decimated rifle team. They have no LOS to that german they can't shot grenades or rocks because of the "aborted attack" even the tank has nos clear LOS.

Looks like you have the Axis AI on the ropes.  Asking for a truce. If you'd taken into account the things that Steve McClaire had posted above and still seeing this, let us know. Would like to see some screenshots of your command radii. Hit and hold the spacebar during the game and while holding it down take a screenshot next time you see this. HOw about suppressing fire? Were you using the tank to fire at the closest spot next to the enemy units that the tank had LOS to? You can ask any unit you have command of to "area fire" at any terrain it has LOS to. If close enough to the enemy it WILL have an effect on them eventually regardless of how experienced they are. Also what kind of terrain were the charging units traversing?

Another tip: In the game Options menu (F8) you have the option of making soldier outlines tell you what kind of cover they are currently occupying. Some folks feel it's ugly to play the game with that on all the time but in that screenshot of command radii if you had that on as well that would help us determine what we need to do with what you're reporting.

Ok - that is a different situation then what you described initially. Possibly your team is taking cover from incoming fire from some other Germans, or it failed its check to charge in to hand to hand combat. You're seeing this a lot? We'll have a look at that.

smoke limits the effect of the "stand up and run away" but when a command unit is hit..... you just regret to to have a nagan to shot down all those "cowards".

Well in that case the germans are asking for truce. That was the time needed to run the screen capture software.
There are three units in that bunker.
1 The bren group which was there at the beginning of the action
2 Then came a command unit
3 and finally a rifle squad which was almost annilated by an mg fire

I use the settings cover surronding the unit so as you can see they all are green (one soldier outside is yellow but useless)
I did try a push action with all the units or individually but I got a refusal. They are stuck into that bunker
The MG is no longer shooting at them and they have no suppression.
I did try to use the sherman to shoot that german but was responded that they have "no clear shot"

I have zoomed the picture and added two arrows to show the the actual position.
Your suggestion should be correct if I ask the sherman to shoot near him.
