We will try to post images along with the updates and answer questions about tactics and rules.
It is a very interesting game, an all out attack on Russia in 1939-1940 from Germany and Japan. We are now in Mar/Apr 1943, Germany is about to align Turkey and capture the russian oil. Italy has fallen (Sep/Oct 1942) and the frontline is in the mountains north of Rome. Yugoslavia and Bulgaria is Allied controlled. US captured Truk in Jan/Feb 1943 and are putting on the pressure with a supercombined every single turn since Nov/Dec 1942, and a LOT of carriers and planes. There are 11 4LND in England bombing away

A game with a 1940 Barbarossa
Nov/Dec 1943, Ger forces stopped in the Urals by the winter, Manilla has fallen to US forces, the western front is a nighmare of planes, land units and off.chits.
For the first time I have tried a massive strat bomb campaign against Germany. There are 18 4LND in England and Italy. Germany has lost 31 BP the last 3 turns and there are only 4 Ger FTR on the eastern front

Yeah, but with Italy fallen already and the Allies ensconced in the Balkans and across the Seine in France, the Germans are in for a tough 1944-45. So are the Japanese since it looks like the Allies are roaming freely in the China/South China Sea.

Very exciting looking game, I hope there will be more links to photos posted.

It is a very exciting game

Russia and Japan was fighting in north Manchuria when the Germans attacked in Mai/Jun 1940, full panic, I was sure he was going for a Sea Lion :-)
The Allies started a Med campaign that ended with the fall of Italy in Sep/Oct 1942, but I was stopped cold in the mountains afterwards
US put pressure on Japan when they captured Truk in Nov/Des 1942. Japan has a LARGE fleet ( 6 super BB) and a lot of CV's and planes, but have very little oil now that I have taken Manilla and controls the South China Sea. We battle for China Sea this turn and the Japs have lost 4 2FTR and I have lost one, look promising

The D-Day was in May/Jun 1943,had no trouble liberating western France, 2 off.chits later I now have 2 hexes across The Seine. I have a very large strat bomb force in place

I'm not sure how to proceed, Japan home islands are full of land forces, 1 or 2 per hex already. I think I will conentrate on taking all the victory hexes outside the home islands and throw everything on Germany. The russians launched a */2B blitz just now and the German have to withdraw the Ural south drive to secure his positions.

Germany is producing 1 or 2 off.chits per turn

Any thoughts ?

Probably the biggest gamble the Axis can go for is attacking Russia before vichying/conquering France. The situation seems dire for the Axis, even if Turkey is aligned. From my experience, the Allies should have Italy or the Balkans, but not both, at this point. And to have a solid position ashore in France already as well? For the Axis, conquering or at least emasculating Russia may be the only chance to pull this one out.

Roger that plays the Germans has been aware for 2 years now that Russia must fall (Urals taken) in 1943 or he will die, he has been throwing everything at the Russians. It looked really good in the summer of 1942 for the Germans, but a Yugo align + para attack that liberated Rumania and captured the oil, forced him to attack Rumania. That campaign cost him 1.5 summer turn and 1 HQ and 7-8 Pan/Mech/Mot/Inf + some planes. The Allied retreated in good order and lost only a Yugo Inf

Update: Last session before summer vacation

In Siberia Russia launched an offensive in Nov/Dec 43 that forced the Germans to cancel to Ural south drive. In Jan/Feb 44 Zhukov launched an off.chit offensive that put the whole German army out of supply. Next impulse is Axis and the weather is B, here is a crappy iPhone image of the situation, http://img515.yfrog.com/i/2vh.jpg/
German losses in Siberia, 2 2FTR, 2LND, Arm, Mech, MNT, Inf and Inf div

US forces arrives in strength in Yugoslavia (Arm HQ, Arm, Mech and some planes)
Saigon is taken by US forces, invasion north of Singapore
In China sea the battle continues, 7 US FTR's lost, 1 Jap FTR lost, every roll on a favorable table for the US, Japan rolled six 18 in a row, the last one was 3 :-) US has lost around 15 FTR in China Sea the last 4 turns, all on favorable tables for US
Japan also lost a CV, some CA,CL and one damaged super BB

I am quite surprised to see a game where Germany is as far as Ural, but it is far from easy to tell who will win this campaign.

In the game-before-last that we played over the board, the Russians were so embroiled in Siberia that as Japan I spent an OC to break through to Chita, kind of took him by surprise... and trapped a lot of his forces there. two turns later i still had Chita and the Germans attacked. In that game, the Russians were completely driven off the European map, except for Rostov. Even that was taken, but the Russians got it back just before the last of them were driven off the map. Of course, GE got Turkey and the oil fields as well, and the Russians were hold up in the Urals but mostly in north. By the time GE was taking Rostov back, some Soviets crept back on the map in the north.

Addendum... I just remembered that even though Leningrad did fall, the Soviets did hang on to Sevastipol as well, though the Germans made several attempts at it.

This is the situation at the end of the first allied impulse in May/June 1944
http://gallery.me.com/mutant1#100249

The turn started with a German off.chit on the western front and a LOT of air activity. Ger guns disrupted 10 allied corps but the attack failed and disrupted all attackers. An attack in Yugoslavia (Beograd) also failed and disrupted all attackers.

The allied turn was a supercombined for CW and US. US offensive in Yugoslavia, Operation Overlord in The Netherlands (breakthrough into Bremen), Russia broke out from Sevestapol , also gained a hex on the central front. There is also a lot of activity in central russia from partisans, Zoya HQ and regular forces

In the pacific, most victory hexes outside Japan are under allied control (except Rabaoul, Batavia and the one on Madagascar)

Nice pictures. Don't people clip their counters? So much nicer to use. Only 3600 of them. That's only 14400 clips. Side benefit is increased thumb/index finger strength and dexterity if you play the guitar.

The last German factory city was captured in Nov/Dec 1944, and we ended the game. Russia regained Moscow and was deep into Rumania. Japan and Korea was filled with Jap forces, but everything else except Diego Suarez , Vladivostok and Rabaol was under allied control. Japan had only one synth oil and a broken navy.

Germany lost 57 corps the last 2 turns
When the game ended a ger mech div was still on the Russia/China border, it radioed back to Berlin to the bitter end :-)

Thanks for your updates. I do like reading some of the AAR's you find on line and things like this thread. I will try to do this same for our next game.

We are in May/June 44 right now. Hopefully, as the Allies, I can repeat the result of your game...short turns and bad weather killed me in '43. That being said if it wasn't for bad luck the German wouldn't have had any luck at all till then.

One thing I noticed though was how few planes the allies had in your M/J '44 pics, especially the pic of France. That is not a crtisism just an observation...Allies in our games usually have "death from the skies". Which makes allied moves a nightmare to do.

Good luck in your next game.

That is a correct observation, I tend to favor guns, offensive chits, FTR2, FTR3 and LND4

If you have a lot of air units, then the Selectable Units form in MWIF will help. It lists all the units that can move in an air phase/subphase. You click to the rght of the unit in that form and the map centers on the unit. Or, if you know the target hex, you can just click on the unit in the form and drop it on the target hex. Fighter escorts are also listed.

There isn't any provision for identifying all the enemy units that might intercept (or intercept the interceptors), but this does alleviate a lot of the searching and helps avoid missing a long range bomber that is far away.

Yes, one of my favorite threads here is your "MWIF Game Interface Design". I have probably spent more time there than any other thread. I see how many of the things you have worked on will help in making the game easier to play.
