While we all await an AE release, another company is offering a free 10 day trial of World of Warcraft. If you want a distraction try www.warcraft.com and enjoy a hack and slash!

Who would want to do battle with Goblins and Ghosts when we will be rampaging across the Pacific with Kido Butai soon enough!

Oh this misinformed

After 4 years in WoW, I can say that MOST goblins are good guys, and I have seen a fair number of "apparitions" of 1 type or another, I have seen few ghosts. Most of the critters you encounter are run of the mill animals (like rabid grizzlys) and your odd dragon and of course your standard humanoid "evil-doers"

is this a slight upon my skills or an indication of how much you have chopped and devalued my beloved KB in AE?

Hehe, you missed the edit. And I usually play the Japs, but I for 1 dont keep the KB together. My "standard" Jap deployment has 4 or 5 carrier TFs.

If I am moving outside land based air cover, I will bring 3 or 4 of these TFs together (in proximity not in an actual TF) for whatever mission Im performing. The problem with keeping all your carriers in 1 spot is, well, that they are all in 1 spot. The other guy can do whatever he wants everywhere else. There are very few places I go that I cant cover with land based air so it isnt often I have my carriers all in 1 spot. Midway, New Caledonia, Perth, Ceylon, Aleutians, Canton, Palmyra. Many of these arent worth taking in AE because you wont be able to hold them for long. Midway, Palmyra, maybe Canton. Hard to support because of lack of interlocking airfields in the area and you can only put 6000 troops to defend (about a regiment with little support). You can hold them as long as your carriers are around to help them. Thats pretty much it. When your carriers leave, the other guy will show up and retake it.

I can guarantee I'll give you a better fight if you come that way...of course it's easy to acheive mass as the Allied player when most of the Pacific and Indian subcontinent are occupied by the IJA

can johnson isl still reach pearl? - this was always a handy island in bombing pearl to prepare the way for the glorious takeover - i take it this only has a 6000 capacity too?

so.... in stock were we doing the impossible and now AE has rectified this, or has AE just made harder what was realistic in stock. it always seemed plausible as a plan to take johnson and bomb from there

Yes, Johnston is a small (6000 capacity) atoll. IMHO, that's generous.

Historically, the US defended the atoll with a defense battalion detachment, because the island was too small to hold an entire battalion.

There's definitely enough time for some romantic getaways, however, there isn't enough time to get sucked into WOW. Seriously though, the release will not be in May, given printing time we're talking some time in late June most likely. We're pretty much aiming for that 5th anniversary.

True story, one of our projects years ago was delayed for three months because the testing lead got completely addicted to WOW and didn't tell anyone, just stopped getting his work done while everyone was trying to work around his effective disappearance. Personally, WOW does not really grab me but I know it has a siren's call for some.

Don't heed false prophets when AE is around the corner.

Destined for 6/21/09. Why? Operation Barbarossa anniversary (different theatre, so what!), Father's Day, a sunday (the PH attack and Barbarossa were both on sundays). There you have it.

Hallo Eric,

Thanks for the target date update. Our beloved oracle Terminus had hinted that development was on track to beat the fifth aniv., but it seemed like a couple of bugs came up since then, sowing doubt, spreading consternation and tempting the weak to stray.

We can hold out indefinitely, however.

{But if "fantasy" is the topic, I have a fantasy that Matrix will keep us too busy to stray by releasing some difficult parts of the new manual. I loved the snippits we have had so far.}

Humbly Yours, Johnny

Keep in mind that any delays at the printer, shipping problems, any last minute bug issues that need additional fixing and so on can push things back. We are not set on a particular date in terms of getting the game out no matter what. The late June projection I gave above is based on the fact that it looks like everything will be ready and ship-shape by then. If it's not, we'll wait until it is, but I believe any unexpected delays to be on the order of a few weeks at maximum.

Also, there will certainly be some more preview content released before that date, we won't leave you guys without any appetizers.

Actually, I haven't indicated that we would "beat the anniversary" at all, merely repeated what Erik had already said, namely that we were (and still are) looking good for releasing around that time.

I suppose this would not be a good time to ask when you plan on putting the first patch out.........
