For what it is worth, I don't understand why so many of the Forum members are so thin-skinned. Let people have their say--even if a little off topic. If you have time for an informed response, then try and debate. Otherwise, ignore the crap. The odd perspectives that some people bring to the various threads can be an opportunity for those of you who have enormous stores of knowledge to coach, teach and mentor.

Additionally, I find that humor is hard to write and easy to misinterpret as ridicule...

I don't mind a little irrelevance and irreverence. The problem is that some here are intentionally insulting, and make their statements in ways that are neither intended for, nor subject to, debate.

It's easy to ignore the crap when it's just crap. When your fellow countrymen, particularly veterans, are being vilified in nonsensical, chauvinistic ways, it's just impossible to ignore.

Besides, I think you miss the biggest point. These forums are intended for discussion of wargaming and for FUN. Where's the fun in insults, agenda advancement, and just plain ego aggrandizement? Those in charge need to step up and be in charge.

And those who can't take a joke know what they can do about it...

Unfortunately, the forum has long been a place where one can setup shop either to incite, dictate their viewpoint....or more often than not.....do both at the same time.

I agree with you, however, it is worth remembering that many of our fellow countrymen were villians. I certainly had a number I worked for or led over the years. The bad guys were worse--a lot worse due to systemic failings--but foul deeds were done by many. If someone wants to use anecdotes to make that point, you can't refute it. I think it is important to fight revisionist history where ever it pops up, but it takes a lot of patience--more than I have from time to time.

Your point about this being a game and for fun is well made. I often do forget that intent, because I visit this forum to help learn about the PTO.

So, you guys remember the PRHN incident from earlier this year? My fawning over Pretty Red-Haired Nurse?

Turns out it was a good thing I didn't pursue it further than I did. She's a lesbian. Not only that, but her girlfriend works in another department at the hospital. She (the girlfriend) has been to "visit" us a number of times recently and always seems to "coincidentally" bump into PRHN.

They're keeping it a secret; can't say I blame them. If I were gay, and worked somewhere that had a staff composed of 85% men, I'd keep quiet too.

Idiots will be idiots, there's nothing we can do to stop them. Generally I don't care too much but some just get on my nerves.
It's worth remembering that some of your country men were villains. As some of mine were absolute bastards as well. The difference being that the villainy wasn't an official approach to fighting the war, but was the result of a few individuals.

Why is it, that it's perfectly OK to decry the US/UK as racist baby killing murdering bastards for the actions of a few bad eggs, but any criticism of German/Japanese/Soviet forces will be met with a barrage of abuse and people leaping to the defence of those nations and their conduct

oh i mean i have no idea why someone would want to keep that quite when the staff is 85% male.

No, bobo... Try to follow my line of reasoning here: she's a female homosexual who works in a place where 85% of the staff is female, the vast majority of them heterosexual. Therefore she keeps it a secret.

If I were a homosexual man, working in a (hypothetical) place where 85% of the staff was male, I'd keep my sexuality a secret as well.

Time for an un-PC joke...

An Englishman, a German and a Japanese guy are all sat in a hospital maternity ward waiting room.  They get talking and find that their wives are all giving birth at the same time.  After a couple of hours the midwife comes through and tells them they're all the fathers of baby boys.  But the hospital has mixed up the babies and they aren't sure which one is which.
The English guy stands up, declaring that he will easily be able to identify his baby from the other two.  He marches into the ward and emerges a minute later carrying a Japanese baby.  The Japanese guy stands up and starts protesting loudly.  The Englishman turns to him:
"Shove off, one of those two babies in there is a Kraut, and I'm not taking any chances"*

*References to Germans can be changed for French as well

Probably for same reason its ok to decry every perceived deficiancy in Ger/Jap/Sov forces but do the same to US forces and be met with a barrage of abuse and people leaping to the defense.

History they say is a flapjack....and if that was true in the age before the Internet gave every tom dick and harriett a podium to shout from, its proably now considered to be one big Jiffy Pop.
