Welcome, MO!

We're not a clan, exactly.  We're just a bunch of guys who like to "hang out" in THE THREAD!!!  It's effectively our chat room.  Anyone who does not take themselves too serious will be right at home here.

We also happen to play and love WitP.    If you have questions, post them in the War Room.  Lots of us are always happy to help along newcomers.

Hello. I am new to this game but I have wargamed for many years. I have a friend who posts here as JWE who teaches me how to play when he can but says I should come to this place because this is where the help most people are. He says you are a special clan so I must introduce myself so I am Michael Osterhaut and people call me MO. So sorry to break a thread just wanted to say hello so you wont think I am a troll.

MO

Welcome MO. I'm almost a stranger myself these days. This is a great group of guys. You'll enjoy it here if you have a loose grip on your sanity. Ask question anytime, but also post in the War Room and Main Room. Most people here on this board are helpful.

So just curious. Is this code for JWE spanks your behind?

When Abraham Lincoln fired General Pope and recalled McLellan to active duty, he's quoted as having said "you have to use the tools you have". That's probably the best way to sum up George McLellan: a tool.

It's an insult to tools however.

Welcome Osterhaut, hope your getting ready for AE. If you're looking for tips on how to play or play better, the Thread would be one of the least likely areas to go. I'm not sure anything helpful, relevant or useful has ever been discussed here.

In fairness to McLellan, he was a decent quartermaster, drill master and probably a competant Corps commander. Like many generals , of that war and others , he proved the trusium of the "Peter Principal". He was simply promoted beyond his abilities.

Well, is he like a tool, or is he a "tool"? There's a big difference.

One of Three has arrived. Nelson to Vanguard by DK Brown. Great stuff.....

Still waiting for Warrior to Dreadnought from the UK and Black Cross/Red Star vol 1 from Germany. Both have "Shipped" according to Abebooks but the estimated delivery is set at 25-45 business days.

ACK!

ah well.....The first has already been informative.

What the heck is Poo Poo Point?

Poo Poo is the site of one of the country's (and possibly the world's according to one "dude" i spoke too) most popular spots to attempt suicide....aka "Paraglide"

The trail is a "mere" 1.5 miles according to the signpost.......unfortunatley 95% of that trail is straight up......steeply up. Its probably only the constant maintenance to keep the trail from disintigrating from errosion along the steep mountain sides that prevents one from seeing all the bones of past person who attempted to get up the trail.....much less those with a para pack on their back.

After a six month layoff from any kind of exercise due to a blod clot in my leg.....i attempted the trail last month and the Mtn kicked my a**. I didn't even get 1/2 up. This time.....i made it.....panting and legs shaking.....but i made it. The most challenging "hike" i have yet to find. I can't feel my butt.

I mentioned to my wife a couple of years ago that roller blades might be fun. She wanted to know if I wanted to book the emergency room "now or later".
