I keep hearing game sounds used in documentaries. It is funny. I'm partway through watching Weapons of War - Stalemate in Italy and I keep hearing the rebel uprising sound from Medieval Total War added to photos of allied troops celebrating on transports, for example, the cheering at Salerno after Italy surrendered to the allies. I've heard this same riot sound used in tons of other games and documentaries so it's really getting around.

Unfortunately I don't remember many of the sounds but still remember a few. Like the History Channel Barbarians series uses the Europolalis Crusader States (I forget the spelling cause I only played it once or twice) battle track for all their fighting scenes. The excellent WW1 documentary called 'For King and Empire' about the Canadians' effort in the war repeatedly runs the battle sounds from Decisive Battles games in some episodes. Saving Private Ryan uses all the sounds from Steel Panthers so it sounds like the game being played when you watch the movie. The sound of rocks being shaken in a tin can in the game turned out to be Tom Hanks shooting a machine gun into the open hatch of a Panzer. The recent 360 series about Enterprise and Patton use a very limited set of sounds which also sound suspiciously like they were cut from Kharkov but I can't tell for sure cause they are broken into seperate firing sounds but individually are identical to in the game.

There are probably tons of other sounds being passed around too which I don't know about. Just kinduv odd hearing game sounds in documentaries.

The most hilarious sound I have heard recycled is in Gladiator. When the Germans are chanting at the start, with the battle in the forest about to get under way, I couldn't believe my ears: The German chant was ripped straight out of Zulu with Michael Caine. It is the Zulu chant they use when testing the British shooting ability. I laughed my head off.

I remember this and laughed out loud in the theater, and said the Zulus' are coming. My wife turned to me with a puzzled look and said" I thought they were Germans".

Damn near busted a gut. Glad to see someone else had a good laugh at this one.
